Love this place! We used to visit every year with our school back in the 90s. A few years back, I took my daughter there in May. The weather was a bit off, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The park was pretty empty, and although some rides were closed, we were the first ones on whenever they opened. No lines for the roller coasters meant we could ride them over and over again. Hands down, one of my best theme park experiences ever - all without the usual wait!

My local theme park. Last visited here at Christmas 2016 (got reduced rate tickets through work) and spent all our time in Thomasland as our kids were young then. As we don't drive, travel by local bus here is difficult (there used to be a 116 that stopped at the entrance, but that was withdrawn years ago and the 110 involves a walk down a dark lane!). If your interested, the reason Thomasland is here and not at any other UK theme park is because Drayton Manor is the closest one to Thomas's birthplace. The Rev W Awdry devised Thomas for his second Railway Series book whilst he was working at St. Nicholas Church in Kings Norton, Birmingham which is at the other end of the M42 (junction 2 is the closest exit, follow the signs for Cadbury World!).

@@Proman476The family who used to own this theme park (until last year, when they sold it to Looping Group) unfortunately suffered badly from repair costs from repeated floods of the property and the drama that happened as a result of the death on the rapids ride (not the fault of the staff, or the ride, but it was due to rider error - still the theme park got in trouble). Hence, financial investment in the park was poor for years before selling to Looping Group and we lost great rides like Pirates Adventure.

Wow, this one brought back so many memories ! My parents used to take my younger brother and I to Drayton Manor now and then, after much persuasion on our part, our Dad hated the place ! Too expensive even back in the 1960's. In fact, to avoid paying the admission price for my brother and I he would drive around the corner, find a gap in the surrounding hedge and push us both through ! As you might imagine it was very different back then, no huge roller coasters of course and it certainly wasn't a theme park.. One of our favourite rides was a train pulled by a fast tractor type vehicle which travelled at high speed, well we thought so anyway, on a very curvy lane through a heavily treed area. Those were the days !!

You should visit the Efteling some day! I think it'd be right up your alley, being a mix of rides, immersive theme, and beautiful landscaping (and some classical rides like a carrousel from around 1900!). Definitely go on a weekday outside of (Dutch) school holidays, though - then the queues tend to be only about 15-30 minutes for most rides,. It's also definitely a two-day park, if you want to visit the fairytale forest as well.

This looks like a really neat place to go. Going on a weekday when it isn’t school trip day would be the only time I’d consider going because I just can’t imagine spending a whole day there, spending a 1/3 of the time in a queue (when I can’t stand for long periods of time. Theme parks are not disability friendly), and only getting on maybe five rides! I stopped going to our modest theme park for the same reason. I don’t think there’s really anything they can do about it (I agree with Gaby that fast passes just seem unfair) but it does stop me from choosing to go (that and the ungodly cost).

Used to take the kids quite a lot when they were younger, was a nice family friendly theme park. Only thing is the ques in the summer holidays. Personally would prefer to pay a little bit extra if they theme park limited the amount of people allowed in so no que should be ever over 30 mins or stay open longer, 8pm in the summer should be standard.

They do fast pass but you have to get it from customer services. They have different tiers at different prices but it is worth the money on a busy day.

Falling into a loophole here. 13:32 after an incident where a girl stood up and fell in, the ride was actually abandoned for a bit. Then they refurbished it but turned it down. Sadly alot of parks have been turning the fun water effects off because people unbuckled and standup.... which I don't understand why you don't want to get wet on a water ride.

@@WalkWithMeTim Hi Tim, I genuinely think that's Dustin Johnson at 5:11. If this was filmed around July time he would have been in the UK for The Open 👍🏻
