I don't think the world realizes just how HARD it is to be an artist now. You have to: -Create a product that stands out but doesn't alienate people -Make it Original or get blasted for plagiarism & get genre-casted -Learn how to perform an instrument, study tech, record, Mix, & Master -Find people to create your album artwork, brand logo, titles, headers, etc. -Pay FUCK LOADS for Webspace, Subscriptions, Memberships, Accounts etc. -Self Promote by investing in Visual Representation, Gigging, Blogging -Run 10+ Networking Sites, add photos, shoot footage, & learn to edit it! -Design Merchandise, fork out for prints, Vinyl Pressings, become an account.. ..It's TOO MUCH. They should be figuring ways out to HELP US; not Fuck us over for a god damn percentage.

The deal with KZbin is if you don't sign the deal, you will not be able to monetized your content on the site. The service will actually pay the content holders more money that it does now because they will get money from the free ad supported side of KZbin and now a paid subscribers side. The indie labels are bitching more about some of the terms in the contract. Terms that has to do with fee structures and whether or not they get paid for every stream or not, etc. Billboard did a more detail story on the whole thing. KZbin is playing hardball more because of the user experience. So you signed up for the paid service and some content is not there but it on the free KZbin or the free KZbin stuff is on the paid service but it has ads on it but you're paying for it to be ad free. So YT just want a universal license from the labels just cover everything.

I know a lot of KZbin musicians and some of them have talked to YT people directly about this and they say nothing is really going to change for people in that category. YT will probably just update the partner program contract to cover the new music service for people that are not with any label or publisher and that will be it.

That's why I'm glad o listen to mostly indie artists and bands, much cheaper ticket prices. I just went to a Little Dragon concert, ticket was 19 bucks. Foreign Exchange concert later this weekend has tickets for 25 bucks. Hell, Hundred Waters recent concert here in Houston was only 10 bucks!

In response to the pre-question subject about the jay-z/ bey ticket prices being extortionate along with wayne and drake- they should realise that a packed out show with low ticket prices is better for them as a brand than a show half full with tickets unobtainable to the majority of their fan base.... take Cole's dollar and a dream tour costing just a dollar to get in and the place is packed full meaning the fan base will grow and grow.

As a business I can understand why they're doing this. I wouldn't be surprise if KZbin began to charge its users for the service. I Agree with you guys on that but it doesn't mean I want it to happen.

From what I've heard, the problem isn't that they are offering major labels and independent labels the same deal, but separate deals altogether. And independent labels felt jilted because they believe they should be getting the same contract. So they refused to sign the contract and that's when KZbin said okay, we'll just take your vids down off of our site. This whole thing is just a way for Google to get more money. If you add up every single subscription service's subscribers, they probably would make up a small fraction of the people that go on to KZbin and Google realizes that so they figured why not make a streaming service and get even more money. If KZbin is the 2nd most viewed site, then Google is the first lol. They are getting money everywhere.

They see it as a commodity only existing for profit. We the listeners have a duty to educate and introduce people to all aspects of hip hop culture. I'm afraid to say Kanye hasn't represented it since 2007. Im passionate about hip hop, and if u feel the same you should be doing what im doing. Certain people think radio rap is all there is to hiphop when it goes much deeper and has many more facets than the mainstream cares to show. And perpetuates stereotypes which have real consequences with regard to how black and their culture are perceived. Great discussion. Sophie you are so in tune now and do this effortlessly. Great job. As far as streaming goes isn't you tube a part of Google and I know Google has a subscription service for music cause I'm subscribed to it . Google Play Music All Access. Honestly I think it's the best. Beats is probably similar in service but I never tried it. Anyway may just be that because you tube is a different platform that they want to collect from it separately but dang, just ruining a great thing. I always admired you tube because I hear they are pretty decent to the content providers unlike Facebook for example for artists page they charge for the amount of traffic and the ability for the artist to reach all the fans at once. Chamillionaire did a chat with his fans and he broke it down and bottom line was that most sites require at some point you fork over some dough meanwhile collecting all the money for advertising for themselves that you helped generate. Then went on to imply you tube had a fantastic model which was definitely fair to the artist. Hopefully that doesnt change

I don't think Google is doing anything wrong here. KZbin is a massive platform that reaches hundreds of millions of people on a regular basis. Why should they lose money in the streaming game? Because they don't want to piss off indie artists? I'm sorry, but Google shareholders don't give a damn what vampire weekend thinks. It sounds messed up, but that's the way the world works. BUT I do think Google would be stupid for launching a streaming service that lacks a good diversity of artists. They wouldn't be able to compete.

What KZbin is trying to do is give a deal to the artist that monetize their videos so KZbin can have some of the money the artists get for views,if you're an indie artist than doesn't monetize your views then you have nothing to worry about,you ain't getting money off of it anyways,but if you do monetize your views than you have to make the deal with KZbin other wise they'll delete your Music.....I think it's fair and you guys misunderstood the concept a little bit.
