I've dislocated my shoulder 2x and I've subluxed another 12x over the past 10 years no surgery from what I've gathered from people who had similar situations and orthopedic doctors surgery might not solve my issue it might be something i have to deal with it's my fault for being poor and uneducated and not knowing how to deal with it properly I'm set on trying PRP just waiting until I'm over 35 even though i just subluxed today that's why I'm even watching this video my best advice to you is to strengthen your shoulders as much as possible do all the exercises tighten the tendons and ligaments too not just building muscle @packman3979
@daves93554 күн бұрын
@@packman3979I've had stabilization surgery with mixed results. As this video pointed out having surgery for non traumatic shoulder instability doesn't have greater outcomes than doing the rehab route. With that said i feel I've had an overall positive outcome with the surgery, although even with it i still have bouts of instability and exercises like the ones in this vid help. But build up slow.

Warning. If you have a dislocation you very likely also have soft tissue damage. Follow up with an MRI. I dislocated my shoulder, went to the ER, they popped it back in and off I went. I did my own physical therapy and gradually regained full use of the shoulder. About a year ago, ten years after the dislocation, I started having shoulder issues. Went to an orthopedist and we did an MRI. Ten years too late. We found a complete tear of the subscapularis. Nothing they can do because the tear is too old. I never knew because my body so well compensated for the tear. In fact, all the tests in the Drs office would suggest no rotator cuff issue. Do the MRI. Do not skip the follow up.
@ryanlie62508 ай бұрын
Rotator cuff tear has been proven to be in many asymptomatic individuals such as baseball athletes, since other muscles in the shoulder can compensate for the tear. therefore getting an MRI may still not change the management plan. Also surgery comes with risk of increasing arthritic change in your shoulder joint, so conservative measures would usually be the first option unless failed. Your shoulder started having issues could be contributed by the tear, but again if you don’t keep the muscles around the shoulder conditioned you are more likely to get a symptomatic shoulder in the future

Very similar story for me. Dislocated my shoulder more than year ago and did PT, which really helped. But just recently, had pain shoot through my shoulder suddenly, and found out I had a subluxion. My physician recommended I get a MRI... which my previous orthopedic didn't even mention. I'm trying PT again, but if I don't see any improvement, I'm considering a MRI
@atari0753 ай бұрын
but if you do an exercise targetting the subscapularis you could notice if there's pain (potentail tear) or not right? because if there was a tear at that time and you specifically targetted the muscle you surely should have felt an issue and avoided all that.

One big question i have in my mind is: if, in a purely physical sense, if you have strengthened your shoulder enough to be able to physically carry out a movement safely that you were previously very apprehensive of, but given that you have not actually found this out that you HAVE the physical potential to perform that movement by trying to actually do it (due to apprehension..or will the apprehension not be there at that stage if for eg the body is such that ur mind will automatically know this too? meaning, will your MIND KNOW that you are PHysically capaable of doing the movement, BEFORE you've actually physically evidenced urself doing it? i dont know if that makes sense. im pretty sure the answer is gonna be that one's mind will know if they r ready to do it. but just thought id ask. thanks

First of all - MRI and orthopedic consultation by an experienced specialist. Don't do your self-treatment. It's potentially very complex trauma to recover by yourself without any understanding of what exactly gas happened. Advices by an athlete with several dislocations, surgery and then dislocation again

hope that it will get better soon. I dislocated my shoulder while performing an exercise at the gym when I was 20 years old. I got it "fixed" at the hospital and than it never dislocated again ( I am 40 years old now😅). As I wrote I had no surgery so I don't have any experience in regards of a operated dislocated shoulder BUT , what I did several weeks after the dislocation was a lot of rehabilitation exercises and I waited a lot before I started to use weights in my workouts or doing any kind of sport. I tried to move my arm slow and controlled. Under the first 2-3 years I had some pain if I moved my shoulder too fast or if I slept in a weird position, but eventually those episodes disappeared. In my experience Patience and determination ( including determination in doing rehab exercises) are often the key. Don't rush doing fast movement or sports. Take your time! Step by step. Moreover I used to play the guitar at that time (I dislocated the left shoulder) and it helped me a lot because I did a lot of external rotation just playing the guitar, maybe you can start playing too! Nowdays I do my workouts every week without any problems (chalistenichs mostly but I also use weights) but , as a precaution, I try to avoid some extreme exercises/movements or in general exercises that I feel not comfortable doing. I suggest first to talk to a doctor if you have pain or if you feel that your shoulder is highly instable but I think that doing rehab exercises will only be good for you. But again, step by step, stay on the safe side and than try to improve your extension. Easy movements at first and than some more challenging ones. You need to build more strength on the tiny muscles around your joint. You will feel your shoulder more stable , your muscles will be stronger and will prevent that the shoulder will dislocated again and you will be more confident. But , as I said , take your time, do your rehab. NO RUSH. It will get better! It's not easy, I know, and it can be pretty challenging also psychologically but at the end of the day it will be good. Trust me.
