I prefer this form of concealed carry to appendix carry. At least you're not sweeping your junk the entire time you're carrying, especially with a striker fired weapon. You can wear a coat or jacket or a vest very comfortably, all day long. But, to each his own.

I carried a S&W 3906 for a couple years back in the mid 90s with a similar holster. I preferred it to other carry options because I could access it in a seated position like in a car. I still use it occasionally for that reason. I dedicate one training session a month to using it.

Where do you recommend training ? I have substantial rifle training. Pistols I have very limited experience to the point I don't even have habits yet. I would like to find a place to train for the red dot so I don't have to re learn how to witness the iron sights. Any advice I appreciate it !?

It's a learned defense tactic. Your hands are easy to use in a fight if theyre already up

Anyone who carries a shoulder holster should carry it much higher just below the arm pits. This video showed his holster was sitting lower than it should be. I would highly recommend the Galco Miami Classic Shoulder Holsters. It's the most comfortable design made.

Great video, I'm particularly interested in the operation of concealed carry using a shoulder holster as I'm wheelchair bound and cannot use a conventional holster on the belt either inside or outside the waistband for obvious reasons.

I find it unfortunate that most classes won't let you bring a shoulder rig and I don't think that any competition lets you use a shoulder rig. As a chubby dude, I prefer a shoulder holster.

That's because you would be pointing the muzzle at your squad when drawing and holstering. If you had a negligent discharge during that process, the bullet might well hit one of your squadmates, rather than impact the ground or the berm.

That’s how you sweep your muzzle past half the room. It is very easy to keep the muzzle down while drawing, and reholstering.

GQ? I choose to wear a sport or suit coat. Its the best way to carry Concealed, shoulder or IWB. I can even carry my Ruger LCR in the pocket of the coat

Suggestion: always use shoulder holster safety strap correctly in order to hold your pistol in holster. Two different times I have bent over and my pistol slid out of my holster and landed on ground.

Safariland makes an ALS shoulder holster where you don't have to deal with a strap and the thumb button locks the gun in place and unlocks it with a simple push.

I use the Gould & Goodrich 804B. Black Holster. It works. Its not super high quality or custom but it works well. If you get a shoulder holster, order the side straps that connect to your belt so the holster doesnt move move around.

What makes a holster safe/unsafe is the person drawing. You keep your finger off the trigger when drawing and it won't go bang. Even a hip/appendix holster involves a gun barrel crossing over your body. Carried a shoulder holster for decades with no issues and better for driving/sitting.

I have a right hand draw vertical where I pull up vertically grab with both hands with gun muzzle now pointed at ceiling then push out to point at target. Most of my day I am at the wheel of a vehicle. I find IWB not comfortable when seated behind the wheel of a vehicle driving.

I experimented with shoulder holster carry in the office but my problem was that I always had to keep my jacket on all the time of course esp when seated at my desk which wasn't comfortable ... and also drew attention.

Try a rig that goes under your dress shirt...keep pistol directly under arm pit snug so it dont flop. Ripping a dress shirt is worth it incase of emergency. I carried in office for yrs no one knew.stay frosty

You should check out a vertical rig like the Galco VHS - I carry a full size 1911 in one and it's not visible under a jacket - much more comfortable than carrying IWB when you can dress for it.

Most Ranges frown on Shoulder holsters unfortunately , I understand why because it muzzles anybody behind the shooter. So we have to practice this at other places and private shooting ranges.

Bianchi shoulder rig isn't worth the money. In my opinion, the holster should not disengage the thumb safety when carrying.

Why can't you IWB or IWB in a suit? The coat looks like it is long enough. But I like the idea of a shoulder holster. Especially a horizontal holster.

You can, Two Bears, if you have a belt in your suit pants. But remember to keep it concealed when you sit down - especially when you unbutton your coat to sit down. Make sense?

Two Bears Bushcraft Not everyone can. Short people like me, are slim and our coats aren't long enough. But the torso of the coat is viable enough for a shoulder holster.

I find the advantage of a shoulder holster is access behind the wheel of a car versus access seated in the car when carrying IWB. The shoulder holster is comfortable and easily accessed.

@Matthew Caughey i know its an old thread but you can always use ulti clips which clamp to the pants and use a standard dress belt to conceal the clips. Tuck the shirt in behind the clips amd you are good to go.

As soon as the weapon clears the holster the muzzle should immediately be pointed to the floor, next pull the right elbow in and raise the pistol up to meet the support hand, rotate the pistol up and then press the weapon forward and fire. To re holster the pistol, drop the muzzle and rotate it back to the holster. Secure the holster with the weak hand, making sure the arm is raised up, then rotate the pistol and push the weapon into the holster. Secure

I was carried the shoulder holster on duty because of the sitting settings of desk or vehicle. I need to have avoidance of obstructions frokm the sitting position. I am a security officer and need to have my ppe accessible. My security company Allied Universal says only swat can wear the shoulder holster; which is bs to me. If I'm in any of the two situations of location then I'm wanna be combat ready. I'm a open carry and this is one of 3 ways I carry and they are all safe ways.

Horizontal carry shoulder holsters are dangerous as hell no matter denies it. The thumb break can and will come loose on day with pistol falling out. Vertical is best. Now days there are locking holsters that secure the holster in horizontal carry to prevent weapon from falling out. Most as I did had a additional strap installed and/or the security holster by Safariland called the ALS that secures pistol upon reholstering with no thumb breaks to worry about coming unsnapped because pistol is locked onto ejection port and only release by low profile thumb lever.

I like my Galco VHS, plus it's amazing how well you can conceal a full size handgun (a 1911 in my case) when you wear vertical. Also very quick to draw and you don't potentially have a bunch of people getting bent out of shape at your secured weapon flagging 'em, especially when in the front seat of a vehicle if someone's in the back seat.

Anyone who's ever so much as handled one will tell you there's no danger of those magazines falling out - not only are their retention straps snapped in place, but they tend to be quite snug in there.

The man who was killed in the church shooting by the shotgun had to stand to draw due to belt holster and lost his life as a result.
