I use the YWT stretching method when my neck needs to relax. Stand tall, arms high, one light to the right, the other to the left. You look like a Y. Now bring your shoulder plates as much together as possible and hold for 30 sec in this position. Still hold and bring your ellbows down to 90 degrees, now you look like a W with your Head in the middle. Shoulder plates are still together. Hold for another 30 sec. Now arms wide open. You look like a T. Hold the tension in your back for another 30 sec. Finished. Repeat another 2 sets if still needed. Helps me always out of neck issues.

So happy to see Mark using risers on his aerobars. I'm doing the same thing, because I cannot get that low.

Not just an aero position you can maintain longer but also a position you can get your best consistent power from overall.

This is really helpful; thanks, Heather! I've just started using a tri bike and I'm doing ok on the aero bars in the pain cave, but on the road, the vibration and bouncing on uneven roads makes my shoulders ache more. Fortunately, I didn't have an issue with my lower back or hips.

Extremely timely video. Recently bought my first TT bike and have had my first ride last weekend in a 60min. ride. 2nd ride yesterday, a 120min. "conditioning" ride with sore sholder blades and neck as an expected result. However the ride is faster and more fun!

Sometimes I have a sore neck after riding my road bike in an aggressive position. After doing my exercises, I am glad it stops hurting.

I wish this video came out a couple of days earlier 🙂. Yesterday I did a first ride on aero bars after months spent only on trainer. The ride was 3 hours long and my neck and shoulders were so sore after 2,5 hours that I was not able to hold the position any longer. But still it turned out quite well after such a long brake. And no pain today 🙂

I can’t tell you how timely this was. I just returned from a training ride on my TT bike and noticed I had a very sore right shoulder. I sat down to check out KZbin and your video was at the top of my feed - Thank you!

So is the fix for shoulder pain to be more comfortable with high hands and higher stack height? Didn’t really feel like that was answered in the video

Raising your saddle, and then effectively having it too high, could potentially lead to a whole plethora of new problems, pains and even injuries. (assuming, of course, your saddle was at the right height in the beginning). Maybe this is a bit of a dangerous tip?

@GTN Could you please make a video comparing aerobars in triathlon and aerobars for touring? Like beaumont on GCN he actually did the 80 days around the world on a bike with aerobars i think. How does being on aerobars for speed compare in traithlon versus UCI time-trail and how do both compare to aerobars for touring? Is it possible to find a sweet spot between the two where you have a bit more speed than usual on a touring bike AND dont suffer as much pain as on a triathlon or time-trial? Also could you please make a video about putting brakes on aerobars? How to do it, how effective they are, etc.

got my 1st bike ride with the new triathlon one and got the worst migraine! I'm scared to ride it AGAIN! I'm pretty sad and don't know what to do. I have a feeling it has something to do with the posture

Interesting, I’ve always thought aero over everything but, I’ve lifted my position up by 2cm after this as I’ve had crippling stitches in the aero position in races at lower power than I can do on my road bike, where I’ve never had a stitch! Hopefully this will make me a bit faster!

Top class video! Mark’s position is amazing - looks easy ;-). It would be good to have a video around equipment / gadgets to convert a low to a higher/inclined, etc. These are a bit hard to find and some of them seem to be customized / Made on demand

How about a video on transitioning from the trainer to outdoor riding and tweaking handling skills in advance of tri season? Thanks for considering and would really appreciate a response - I haven't heard anything on my last few posts.

There is no issue with flexing your lumbar spine and shouldn't have to hold the curve in your back, thanks pretty unnatural. Otherwise really good info.
