@Wayne Membrey - kind words! I mean in the grand scale of things....certainly no ripper. I'd love to go back as well, it's pretty darn hard to beat the Mentawais considering the quality of waves and lack of crowds.

Great waves!! You should try something narrower and thinner rails when surfing barreling waves… looks like the board gets a little stuck when changing rails, just an impression. You did great and had the guts to pull in at some shallow reefs! Go for it!

What a great vídeo mate. I see my self exactly like you. I want to go to Mentawais for several years now, but lots of doubts(in my surfing) and questions have been coming across and you kinda replied almost all of them. I didnt see your cuts. Did you got ok with the cuts. Do Kandui have medical support? Do the guys on the boats/jetskis help you if you loose your board? Again, excelent video

@lubomir trenkov - glad you liked it, it's the whole reason I make these videos! In terms of cuts, none were that bad but I did get an infection by the 8th day. Luckily one of the guests had some antibiotics (and he was a doc) so just started taking them. As I said in the follow up video, definitely take your own medical gear just in case. Kandui do have medical stuff but it's better to take your own. In terms of losing your board, they'll do whatever they can to help you out. If there's a jetski they can come and pick you up sometimes, but it depends. At some breaks, you just have to swim a bit to get out of the impact zone. I'd definitely say go to the Mentawais. It's ace and you'll only get better by going!

Too much on your front foot. Need to bend those knees and be flowing up and down rail to rail thats your gas pedal. Lay it on rail and look where u want to go. Drop your front arm and pick up your trailing arm and thru the turn, that arm is one of your style cues, your head is another of your style cues. Your posture ie your back is another. On a thruster your rails and especially your fins are your gas pedal and you can gain speed from your turns. This isnt as true of twins, single fins, and quads.ĵ Honestly i was surprised how well u actually surfed after your remarks on the video. Your pop up is quick and natural which is usually the source of greatest angst for begginers and older surfers whos skills have atrophied. Your tube stance and positioning was also quite good. Back was straight not slouching or bent over. Good luck!
