Thank you so much for these videos. I am having this surgery on my non dominant shoulder in a week. You have answered many of my questions. I am a 68 year old lady but I am very active. This surgery is going to allow me to continue splitting wood and doing wood carving. I do some carpentry and I also knap flint. I am no where ready to give these things up. My surgeon says this is the answer. Thank you, thank you for these videos! I don't sleep well now; I am dreading the sleeping much more than the other pain. I will get through it.

Hang in there! Even for that reason alone I am grateful I had the surgery. Some people say well you don't have to do this in the gym Etc however it was just so difficult to sleep and why it is a little difficult for the first week or so it does get much better and before you know it you almost get to a place mentally to wear if you ever had to get the other shoulder done you kind of just think to yourself well that wasn't so bad I would do the other one if I had to LOL but the first few weeks are a doozy. It definitely helps to stay ahead of the pain and take the medication as scheduled even if it's not that bad it will creep up on you. I'm not a pill person so there were a few times I tried to just think I could do without it and I regretted it

Just had same surgery- first 5 days horrible. I’m on day 14 - feel pretty good post op good start pt in another month due to booked scheduled. Which I think is little far out . Like you been to gym doing what I can . I’m 60 - sling still on only issues is sleeping . Another 2-4 weeks in sling per doc . Like to get pt going - I’ll do some more research on initial pt exercise to start on my own . Pendulum swings seem to be the normal exercise. Thanks again for this - I’m a competitive bodybuilder and anxious to get back into it. I know it will be 4-6 months for that

Hang in there! You will see in the video some of the basic PT they had me do in my other vids. It was pretty basic.

Almos4 weeks - weaning out of sling - 3-6 hours off now . -doing some basic stuff on own - start pt in 12 days - still sleeping with sling - kept arm tucked in is key . Working out at gym with other arm studies show it helps with opera arm . Less atrophy- question how does your bicep look now - - is it dropping ?
@kitchenabz875 ай бұрын
@@Marx1963 So there is no dropping as a result of this surgery. HOWEVER, bc of a distal bicep rupture I had in 2014 and it took months to get that fixed, I already had disfiguration from when the short head tendon tore off and retracted so far up. The large gap in my right bicep is from that surgery to the short head in 2014 not anything with this one I did the video series on for the long head of bicep and the shoulder

Hey how are you doing now ? I’m pretty much getting the same surgery’s you had .. can you do stuff like chin-ups ? You think you could operate a jackhammer? I’m a cemetery worker I have a hard job .. I’m hoping to only be off for 6 months
@kitchenabz879 ай бұрын
So maybe the jackhammer in 6 mos. As far as a chin up yes I can do them no problem now and I'm 250 pounds but I'd say it depends on how in shape you are prior to the procedure. I don't think I would have been doing them in 6 months after surgery even if i was lighter just bc it takes a bit to get your strength back and be comfortable and confident.

It will be six weeks next friday and I'll be able to lose the sling! I'm a gym rat so I'll keep you posted as I get cleared for any type of training. My bicep so far hasn't been an issue. I had a distal bicep rupture about 7yrs ago and that sucked. With your bicep how did you tear it and how long from the injury was it before you had the procedure done?
@logancundiff3 жыл бұрын
@@kitchenabz87 Tore it in the gym on the bench... I waited a year and tried cortizone and PRP injections to no avail. So, after a year of no progress I went for the tenodesis
@kitchenabz873 жыл бұрын
@@logancundiff ok. I know when I had waited for my distal bicep rupture it had retracted quite a bit and there was some disfiguration but that was the short head and not the long head. I had quite a bit of atrophy as my arm went from 20 inches to about 15.5 inches but it bounced back I'd say within the year

Brother I just have my surgery one week ago my question is can you drive like this ?
@kitchenabz875 ай бұрын
So this was my dominant arm bc I'm right handed and I still was able to drive fine with my left assuming you have an automatic transmission.

actually the hardest part was reaching around with my left to get the key in and out of the ignition LOL

Hello , post op tenodesis surgery week 4 , no pain at the insertion site of the long head , but presence of pain in the anterior deltoid when passively lifting the arm overhead, wondering if anyone has experienced this also ?
@kitchenabz872 ай бұрын
Week 4 it's all still a bit tender. Give yourself some time. In a way the pain is good. It reminds you to not overdo it. That is why so many people reinjure themselves bc they don't give it all the time. The soft tissue will heal faster and it will give a false sense of security but the bone is going to need time to fully heal so that the repair of the anchor and tendon is fully seated and healed up.

I am having a lot of shoulder blade and back of shoulder pain my doctors still haven’t started me on PT I am coming up on three weeks
@kitchenabz872 жыл бұрын
I know this may sound silly but have you tried having someone massage right under that scapula? I may just be a knot in the muscle from restricted use. If you have a tennis ball you can try laying on it and really digging in to the scapula. For me, everything has been 100% better. I actually just recorded an update and it should be posted within the week. But even before the surgery I was prone to getting knots in that area even though sometimes it shows itself as pain in the neck or elsewhere but it was located right under that scapula and rhomboid.
@keithmoffitt98812 жыл бұрын
Yes my wife has been massaging it but still not much relief finally got the ok to start PT yesterday so I’ll be looking forward to that. I guess it’s just slow going. I can’t wait to be 100% again thank you for all the videos it definitely helped before and after my surgery.

I’m 5 days removed from the same surgeries. I’m wondering if it’s normal to feel pops when slight movement happens and if the pain in my bicep area is normal when just sitting in the sling.
@kitchenabz872 жыл бұрын
So are you keeping time with all your meds? If I skipped a dose or did not stay on top of it yes there was definitely pain. Other than that it was manageable. Didn't feel the greatest thats for sure and sometimes it would creep up on me that first week. In regards to the popping...you should be pretty immobilized in that area...I had my shoulder done as well at the same time but not sure if that makes a difference. Even when I had my short head on the bicep operated on I was still in a sling and not able to have movement really.
