He took Steve Vai's spot in David Lee Roth's band. And, better yet, he has little enough ego that he's not going to want to put his own spin on the classic Mars solos. It will likely be note-for-note other than his showcase solo, during which he'll tear everyone's head off. The guy was a seasoned session player before getting famous. I saw KISS in 1983 on the Creatures of the Night Tour. Motley Crue opened. One of the 5 stops they played before famously getting kicked off the tour by Gene Simmons for being too… everything. I was blown away. A couple of candelabra, some dry ice and a sound that melted the audience. Motley Crue was one of a handful of new bands I got to see just at the beginning. Often, the openers were just fillers because the headliners didn’t want any real competition. But KISS never did that. They always chose really solid performers that often went on to great careers. Bought Too Fast for Love on cassette and never looked back. Man, I miss the 80s.
