One of the things I love about these early ELP live clips is the absolute groundbreaking old school technology that is being employed...Frequently, Keith is, literally, unplugging and replugging, patch cords, on the fly, in the middle of a solo, with his right hand, while he continues to actually play with his left, in order to produce a different sound on the synthesizer...("O.K., I'm gonna hit this low octave, then move 3 to 8, and tweak this clip above it, and it will make this sorta weird phase to high pitch effect")...Often, Greg and Carl are pausing briefly and waiting on this transition (and, I assume, hoping it works) before crashing back in on their parts...This band either rehearsed, hard, or had an unbelievably intuitive feel for each other. (I think it might have been both.) I liked how Keith would just sorta incorporate all the fiddling about into his choreography, kinda like Hendrix did when he was constantly adjusting his amps...
@Claytone-Records5 жыл бұрын
JONATHAN LOCKE I always thought he got the best synth sound. Over Wakeman, Wright, etc. Best tone from what can be a cold sounding instrument if you don’t know what you are about. Hi from Texas. I knew immediately it was early ELP Tarkus? And I could here Greg in my head “if they take us they will burn us” It’s like he was channeling through me. Strange, but beautiful.
