You had me at bacon grease. As a kid, in the 60's and early 70's, this was a mainstay of our evening meals during summer. Great stuff. Thanx.

Reminds me of my Father. Thank you. He was from a family of 8 and had this many times a week during the Great Depression. Canned tomatoes from the garden and elbow macaroni just like you made it. Dad said it was one of the few times he could get a full belly. Cheap to make and filling. Miss you Dad.

My grandmother made macaroni, bacon and tomatoes and the only seasoning was garlic salt. I make it for my grand kids and my wife and I whenever I need a bowl of comfort.

I think my grandma did this, but it was so long ago, I can’t remember.

This Texas born grandma grew up eating Mac n tomatoes and it’s still one of my go-to comfort foods. At 77 I think it’s safe to say I’ll never outgrow this dish or cornmeal coated pan fried okra 👏👏👏

🍅Thank you for this recipe! I absolutely love Mac & Tomato. My mother always put some sugar in hers, but this will be the first time I have made it with bacon grease! 🥓🥓

Put a bit of sugar in it to take out any sourness and if you want the best pinto beans , i add 1 tblsp. of sugar and salt to each pound of beans , best beans ever.

Thanks for the memories! My mom made this but we added Land O Lakes American cheese to the tomatoes and kept the noodles separate. It allows you to keep the pasta firm and make any size bowl you want. Otherwise the noodles get mushy when you reheat. Great job 👍

My mom made a dish much like this. She would however cook the macaroni to the point of mush. This made the dish creamy and smooth. She would make the macaroni first. When it was done she would baith the macaroni in butter. Then add diced tomatoes and either tomato paste or catsup as a sauce and simmer. What came out of it is a slice of heaven that only a mother can make.

I used to add a block of cubed mild cheddar to the finished product. Not melted, just on top. My kids loved it.

The sugar cuts the acidic aspect of the tomatoes.

Lie!! The store tomatoes not going taste like your grandma or my mamma’s. I’ve tried an I’ve tried. But nope!! It’s scary that soon generations be nothing left that even know the difference to kids now! Baking soda flitters I love to make like hers but didn’t watch to know.
