what people need to understand about kristen chenoweth is that she is a world class opera singer who transitioned FLAWLESSLY to musical theater. she was literally on track to be one of the biggest opera stars in the ~world~, and then decided she wanted to do MT. and to this day I have yet to hear another vocalist straddle both styles so impeccably well as she does. while also managing to bring such charm, heart, and wit to everything she does. she is a MASTER of her instrument and no one could ever do what she does the way she does it. end rant.

The mark of a good casting director - they spotted the uncanny resemblance between Lea Michele and Idina Menzel (seriously, you could be forgiven for thinking they really were related!) The only other piece of casting in a similar context (establishing a familial relation) that even comes close was the casting of Robert Wagner as Anthony DiNozzo Senior on NCIS; there is more than a passing resemblance between him and Michael Weatherly (DiNozzo Jnr)

I graduated HS in 2004, and on my graduation day, my parents surprised me after the ceremony that we were going straight to the theater district to have lunch at a nice place and then straight to see this show... yes... with this cast! I can remember the first time I saw Kristin Chenowith on TV a few years later on seriously a commercial or something, “mom that’s the girl we saw in Wicked! Glinda!” She and Indina were so electric, you truly couldn’t look away. Of course, in the years after they both rose to huge (deserved) success, and as anyone who’s seen someone kill it live on broadway & left thinking, “man they’re really gonna be a big star if they want to go on from theater”.... it’s soooo cool when you see them on tv, etc. Same as when I saw Jeremy Jordan in Newsies and then in movies. So cool! As you probably guessed, I’m a native New Yorker, have seen an INSANE amount of shows... and these two were definitely on another level. The show was just phenomenal.

My fave line in the whole show was when they were doing the number about writing home to their parents, and Glinda is talking about all of Elphaba's traits, while Elphaba simply looks deadpan at the audience and says: "Blonde."

I will never forget my singing teacher showing me this very performance years ago as I was learning it. She was telling me to not be so afraid to let go and truly sing my heart out. She tragically passed away a few years ago and I just have been thinking about her so much with the movie coming out soon- she would’ve been over the moon with excitement.. I wish she was here to see it :(

0:43 "there's nobody wiser, not when it comes to popular. I know about popular" the FACE chenowith puts on for that and how serious she sounds saying she knows about popular HILARIOUS! I have never seen wicked but this is just PERFECTION

You know that trope of the girl who takes off her glasses and lets out her braided hair and everyone finally notices how beautiful she is? Yeah, Even with her hair braided and glasses, Idina Menzel is still beautiful. They’re not fooling anyone. 😂

I saw the broadway show in NYC in 2005 during the week of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and I've seen the movie twice. Loved it all!! ❤

Can yall go ahead and cut a deal and release the original cast show of Wicked to streaming. Let the movie have its time to shine but release the show so that everyone can see what the original cast did. I know it’s special and one of those you had to be there moments but it would be great and fans can learn more about the OG cast. We know yall have the footage!!😫

I agree. Saw the movie without seeing the play. Now I want to see the original cast 😢

That's is stunning. They were singing on the stage. Movie is great but it's recorded corrected and made perfect. Live performance is more difficult and shows proper talent. I love the songs.

For those who were wondering: Plans to make "Wicked" into a movie were being discussed as early as 2005 but for various reasons it never got beyond development stage. By 2013 (ten years after it debut on stage), both Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth publicly said that they would be unlikely to be offered the roles they created due to their age (at that time, both women were in their 40's). In 2016, Universal gave approval to go ahead with the film however by 2018, the studio decided to halt progress on the development of the movie in favor of "Cats". The failure of that film at the box office and the pandemic of 2020 pushed "Wicked" further back as Universal were not willing to commit to another high budget musical given the unsuccessful turnouts of other stage adaptations such as "West Side Story", "In the Heights" and "Dear Evan Hansen" which all underperformed at the box office.

The film rights have actually been in circulation since the 90s. Talks for adapting the musical began in 2005.

Kristin will forever be my favorite Glinda. Love that her voice sounded quirky in a way thats childlike with a hint of snark but you could tell she is good hearted. She would make a great live action Lottie if they created a live action The princess and the frog but ik shes abit old for that now
