It was an absolute pleasure talking with you Tom at the SOS. I was planning on going to the After party but my friends and I were exhausted. If you remember, I was the really tall guy with the Cav Stetson who showed you that “interesting” Luger Magazine that came with my Grandpa’s Luger. I would be very happy to send you some pictures of it if you would like for your own documentation for study. I’ll be sure to bring it back to the next show regardless. Great videos as always!

Hi Tom, I don’t want to be that guy however on the engraved, Hans Philipp gun, the crest is in fact the emblem for I-JG54. JG54 was a very successful fighter group in both the east and west.

My grandmothers brother was a medic and did the same thing. He had a belt, and what they called a “Luger,” but having never seen it, I don’t know if it was or wasn’t. What I do know, is that he gave these items to my grandfather. My grandmother-a strict woman-would use the double buckled belt to discipline her children.

Tom, Tom, Tom,....... You missed a perfect opportunity! You SHOULD have used your transporter to go back to 1945 and then you could have picked this stuff up WAY cheaper than the 2022 SOS........ Come on buddy, work smarter not harder!

I didn't get to make it to my first SOS this year because of scheduling issues. I have already purchased an ac and a byf from people that were there though.

Just thought I should correct one thing you misspeak all the time, and that is the word "crest" when you should be using the correct term "coat of arms". The "crest" is a part of the coat of arms and not every coat of arms has a crest. What a crest is worn on the top of the Helmut in a coat of arms and is usually a fancy feather, cloth, of even a small model of something. I am a Stein collector and one of my good friends is an expert on various German and Austrian coat of arms. He is nationaly recognized and has given many talks across the US. He is the one who taught me the difference between the crest and a coat of arms.

In common everyday language the term "Holland" is used in place of the more proper term " The Netherlands." People say "America"" all the time in the place of the more proper term "The United States of America."

Some notes from Germany. Be carefull , when using german magazine ,Schwerterträger' and the ,mother magazine' of this, Deutsche Militärzeitschift. Compared to other german magazines about weapons or military history, there is a noticeable ,touch'. And , the Video shows, that the creators knowledge about things of medieval military context is lacking. What he calls ,chrest' is in reality a ,coat of arms' , the german word is Wappen, which is clearly related to Waffe/ weapon. A crest, in german Helmzier'( helmet decoration) belongs also to the coat of arms. So the coat of arms consists of the Shield( Schild), and on helmet there was a ,figurine' in coat of arms colours. For example for Hohenzollern dynasty, the shield is divided into two white and and two black quarters, and the chrest is a dogs head ( from Bracke type) painted like the shield. Starting in imperial days, a Bahnpolizei / railway police was founded, first sidearm a kind of short sword. Tasks: Protecting travellers against criminals in trains and railway stations, guarding freight in wagons and buildings, escorting important , expensive or dangerous freight , guarding of railway tracks, trains vor buildings ( thieves steal everthing). And first research, when something happens in railway context. Of course, between 1933 and 1945 Bahnpolizei/ railway police was misused for dictatoric things. When war started, the socalled Bahnschutz/ railway protection was build, basicly a paramilitary guard force, for protecting trains, tracks and buildings against partisans, but also here this partisan fights saw terrible things done by both Bahnschutz and partisans. After war , in West Germany a new Bahnpolizei was created, in Easten Germany the Transportpolizei. The thing changed in 1990s after reunification . The former paramilitary Federal Border Guard / Bundesgrenzschutz was transformed into civilian Federal Police/ Bundespolizei. And german federal railway Deutsche Bundesbahn was transformed into private company German Railway/ Deutsche Bahn. For now no nore being a federal gouvernement company, the members of Bahnpolizei hat been integrated into Bundespolizei, so today the Federal Police dies the job of former Bahnpolizei. Today Deutsche Bahn has only a private securty guard branch, being only private guards, no police rights.
