Dark souls is an inherently lonely game. But imagine playing a co-op with a noob, like a sort of master-pupil journey through an beautiful hostile dying world. edit: teaching them the ropes and maybe in the later stages when it get hard, or the master dies. The pupil has to face the huge monster on thier own.

I played the whole series like this :) first time for my buddy and he isn't good enough to play alone. He never had that triumphant moment but he did beat me in like 1/10 duels after a while. It was alot of fun and a new way to enjoy souls

For the two player question, I'd love FTL where one player manages power and systems and the other moves around the crew and targets ships. Maybe power consumtion is more active and you have to chose what has power at what moments, so to give power to weapons you have to take power from something like the doors, meaning that if you're not paying attention your co op partner cant save people trapped in rooms.
