Welcome to the show us your steak lockdown special. After all the messages I've received from people saying how hard they've found lockdown at times, I thought it would be the right time for another show us your steak challenge for mens (and woman's) mental health.
I've struggled myself and now that I'm in a good place I want to help those of you that are struggling by opening up a platform for all us butch blokes to share a little bit of what we've found hard during these strange times.

Seriously dude, I had a nervous breakdown 8 years ago, and developed crippling depression as a result. It cost me my job, my marriage (though I'm not really bothered by that because I got custody of my kids, and my ex-wife is a violent sociopath), my social life, everything I'd known, really. I turned to booze for a while, but it was messing with my head too much, so i stopped drinking and just withdrew into myself. Luckily my kids were teenagers and capable of looking after themselves for the two years I was really bad. I stopped watching TV back then, too, and started watching KZbin instead. I've always been outdoorsy, but I'd been forced to give it up after the breakdown, so i watched fishing, bushcraft, survival videos, and got my outdoor fix vicariously through you lot. It was exactly the tonic I needed. Three years ago I'd had a gutsfull of watching other people do it, and decided to go back to doing it myself. It wasn't easy to begin with, but it got easier the more i did it. I still have really bad days - when I can't even get out of bed, but I don't let it level me like i used to. And, after watching a few videos on here, I always get the urge back, which eventually forces me back out of the door. I want to say a huge thank you to you, Joey, MCQ, Joe Robinet, Carlisle 195 and many more, for helping me, and I'm sure many others, to get through the darkest parts of the tunnel. And I want to buy you a pint as an extra big thank you for addressing mens' mental health, and for the numerous belly laughs. You're right - not enough of us talk about it, which is daft, because if we'd damaged any other part of ourselves, we'd discuss it. Why not discuss damaged mental health, too? Stay safe, brother.

Just a quick one to say thanks to everyone who commented on my recent video. I think people are dealing with this in vastly different ways, some people are loving it, some people are really struggling and everything in-between. I really hope people can find some peace in the sharing of other peoples stories and feelings. Take care mate. -Hazy

The toughest parts have been that my back is out and I cant see anyone, like my osteopath to help. I don't like to be on painkillers, but have no choice right now. I'm a cyclist and have only been for about 5 rides in the last two months. Good points are that I stumbled across your channel and have been watching 2 or 3 vids of you and Mr Bramblehead doing your thing and it's been really good for me. Cheers mate, from Montreal. PS: I'm booked soon for a back treatment and will be able to ride and when the bans are lifted, go camping. Yes Virginia, there is a Rastaclause!

Brilliant mate. I’m in once I get my gear from my ex. 🤦‍♂️ it’s tits up at the minute. I know what you mean about the feelings changing from total loss and sadness. I lost my sister 14 years ago. She was 51. I’m 56 now. Devastating mate but it healed and you’re right she’s my hero. As will my brother be. He was my hero in life too. So double 👍 👍 I’m dealing and coping the lockdown isn’t bothering me tbh. Or is it? I’m old (ancient) enough to know I’m not going to crumble. It’s all going to be ok. And that goes for everything and everyone on these channels. I’ve been through some right crap in my life but I’m still here and I do smile still. As can everyone. It’s good to get it out there and KZbin and it’s community helps massively. Apart from the odd 🛎 end with 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 I laughed when you forgot the steak 🥩 I’ll find a way and get it done and share some thoughts. Thanks for thinking of me mate. It means a heck of a lot that. 👍 you take care. X

My hubby’s best mate and work wife took his life last year, he did talk but didn’t get the professional help he needed at the time and the deeper he got the more he drank until there was no way out. Always, always appreciate you chatting about this subject. Qualifications have there place if it's your career but I much prefer chatting to other sufferers. Those are the people who understand the most, having gone through the ringer themselves. People who haven't suffered just don't get it, especially as it's an invisible illness. Keep up the good work mate, many of us find it extremely helpful! ATB

I've found those that have been affected some way aren't the ones to talk to, at least that's what they've told me. They tell me to speak to a professional, I disagree, they're paid to 'understand' which just isn't the same. Then there's the ones in their perfect bubble that have had a straight run at life and haven't got a clue about any struggles, they shut down or say speak to Mind etc. I have absolutely nobody to talk to other than social media which isn't that helpful to me. I have zero friends and my family is no help, my mum died in 2003, she was my everything and I could talk to her no problem, I hate being so alone in the world, I can see me choosing to exit it at some point soon. Its like life just won't give me a chance and I don't understand why, I did nothing wrong, I just want a friend and a little happiness, someone to talk to and enjoy things with, it's been SO long!

I had a bad week last week. I got so fed up with all this mayhem. It got so much, I just wanted to go to bed and not get up again till all ended. I started to question what is the point of it all? How do I keep motivated? keep fit and healthy, for when I can get out in the great outdoors and do the things I love? When will that be? next month? next year? who knows. I`m almost 70 yrs old I won't have too many summers to enjoy my walking adventures. This week has been much better, I`m getting out again and walking and enjoying it, watching your vids lifts me and makes me smile. So much wisdom, so much love. You're, lucky you have family and friends to keep you sane, I don`t have anyone close I can turn to. I have to deal with it all on my own which I have done for years, I manage, I get by.

As always, great stuff! This lockdown (here in Texas, USA) has been hard for me (age 56) and my wife as we can't see our grown kids who live across the US and my dad who is close to us but much older and has had a lung disease. Thankfully we're all well! We've gotten through the lockdown by gardening and cooking great dinners! I'm looking forward to helping my dad in his garden and visiting with our son and his wife and attending my daughter's wedding in November!!

I didn't comment on this at the time, because a lot of people including you said a lit of stuff I was feeling. However over the last 5 years, but definitely the last 2 ,the blinkers came off for me and I seen reality and life like never before and the truth was revealed, materialistic stuff, popularity, wealth, all surface stuff means nothing unless you're in tune with yourself, you're values, beliefs, happiness, sadness, joy ,anger. Real stuff. I've got nothing but I'm wealthy inside. So yeah thanks mate,I'm an Addict in recovery who is helped by nature and the outdoors to recover and see the real beauty in life. So thanks for opening up it encourages other people to do it.respect hazeo 👍

Another cracking video Haze... my own troubles have come and gone for 20 years... i have suffered from PTSD from an incident in 1999 where, to cut a long story short, I was locked up in a pub cellar and tortured.... four years later I thought i'd cracked life, proposed to the woman of my dreams and she ripped my heart out by telling me she had been sleeping with half the town while I was grafting 60 hours a week... next relationship ended in 2011 when my partner ( who was three months pregnant at the time ) was hit and killed by a drug driver... its only recently I have become attracted to another woman, I truly thought those days were past. Sadly she doesn't feel the same way, which to complicate matters she is my boss at work, a job I love but I work with absolute twats who make my life hell. But right now i'm actually enjoying being on furlough from work, i'm away from all the toxic people in my life and start a new job in October, so i'm hoping this lasts until then. Plus i'm doing something good for the soul by volunteering for the NHS, a mate of mine told me his wife had to sit with people who were beyond all hope and were going to die without their family being with them, and that I thought would be awful. So I requested to do end of life care specifically the part where I comfort those who can't be helped, not only for those poor people, the families too to know their loved ones aren't dying alone and are looked after right through, plus so a fully qualified nurse isn't being wasted. Its as tough as I thought it would be, brutal in fact because i'm worried about what to tell the families, but those who are dying, and the (up to now) thirteen I have sat with are dying of exhaustion and various organ failure, some are quicker than others but all are lacking oxygen to the brain so its a quiet and peaceful passing. Despite it being awful I take a great sense of pride doing it, no matter what the gits I work with put me through, doing things like this makes me feel better. Does that make sense.

The first vid I saw was the dandelion one where you were speaking about the troubles with lockdown and stuff that you had. I found that very honest and it touched me because my mind has been all over the place the same as you and many others I'm sure. I tend to stop at look at the world around me and very soon realise that even though I feel like shit, my life is in all honesty is not too bad. As always nothing but love for you man, the honesty is absolutely incredible and a lot of people will be inspired, I've struggled in the past with horrific mental health issues due to a bumber Molotov cocktail of drugs, alcohol and a bereavement that kicked my arse so hard I didn't know if it was new year or new york, and YOU started me on the right path, with your humour and positivity, YOUR message inspired me to look inside, and I've not looked back since, thank you will never do it justice, you do so much more than you know 🙏namaste ❤️🧘🏻‍♂️

More spit, More spit! Holes! I love the words you use when you're Bushcrafting dear Sir Hazey! And I swear, you made me cry again, my heart just swells with the passion and compassion you have in that beautiful soul of yours!!! Mental health is an issue that for so many is not spoken about enough and the fact that you forgot your steak n fire ... Sir Hazey... couldn't make this video more amazing! Because as you do in all of your videos, you have gotten to each and every one of 'us', and reminded 'us' that we all need to be touched, rubbed, spit on by another human, especially in times like this. 6 feet social distance I say bullshitalisc! A steak would have been lovely, but watching you make fire today.... ahhhhh..... Heaven!!! I miss Joey D and can't wait to see you both together again soon! Much Love n Light and a lot of spit from Sunny So. Cal!!! Mary

I would like to thank you for creating another video on mens mental health ! as a person who has worked in the mental health system for 20 years and have sufferd with mental health myself it is certainly the time the message got out there and the stigma was removed ! nobody is safe from this illness and there is a lot of misunderstanding surrounding the illness - if anyone is struggling at present I would suggest checking out the Hearing Voices network and Peter Bullimore on youtube excellent sources of help with mental health issues ! so thank you Haze once again for bringing this issue out of the darkness and into the light ! regards Graham

bro you have touched on so much in this video its fkin insane , iv have spiralled out of control over the last 3 months , i am my self autistic and i have ADHD so i feel your pain this BS flue upgrade has fkd everything up i started my channel 2 months before covid and iv not done a vlog since its started , i just cant find the energy or motivation to do one i just feel so lost and my hole few on life has changed so much , i have no joy for life any more or want to even be around , the only reason i stay is my little girl , you said something about the goodness in humanity makes you cry and it dose for me too bro but i think its because this world is hell so when we see a good thing we cant control our self's because it is so rare , for many years iv have been under the mind set of be the change you want to see but even that dont work iv been the change i want to see most my life and it gets me into trouble and i get called names like fruit loop or nut job just for wanting change in the world and even the government know people like me as terrorists because we dont agree with the shit the governments do to people in other places in the world , went way off in this but still i hope you get my point lol we all need to come together in times like this NOT stay far apart its almost as bad as saying a mask will keep you safe from covid but what it actually dose is turn your body into an incubation tank for the virus ; the mentality of the rich and powerful i guess ,,, never change you pal your a good one and never apologise for info you give as not many of us know it so its so valuable to people they need to hear it , your vlogs are packed with info and you are funny with it to witch is even better so keep them coming bro

Thanks for doing this vid, buddy. Just last week, I put out a video about why I couldn't do a steak video during the last challenge and talking a bit about my struggles right now. I have received a tonne of responses form people suggesting me steak videos that honestly never showed up on my feed last time around. One of those notes is why I even know you'd done a lockdown edition. Also, I used to co-host a science podcast called Yet Another Science Show. I am definitely starting an outdoorsy podcast at some point in the near to mid future.

Hey guys! Make certain to have your ladies take a look at the Show Your Steak Challenges. Men do not always speak to women as they do with only the boys, so some gals may be living in a state of ignorance regarding men's mental health. Thanks to all the participants for bringing light to a topic too many overlook. As a wife and helpmate, it is vital that I do not take for granted the strong shoulder that is always there for me. Our family unity and trust depends on being understanding and aware of triggers( I dislike that word) that can lead to imbalanced chemical reactions in our bodies. Being loving and kind, even while I may be struggling as well, promotes positive chemical responses within our brains. I may not be able to completely alleviate the cloud my man is under but I can contribute by not making it worse. Remember that when your man is blue, a variety of yellow positivity makes his path to recovery far more green. When freely offered, emotional support and love are priceless. Ladies, don't let it go to waste, they need it as much as you. Men and women are not programmed the same, regardless of what feminism writes. Our every idea or action can't always include the other. Sometimes self reflective space is needed in order to combat an issue. Be supportive of this request, while preparing a place of peace for them to return to. It may require taking on some extra weight in order to relieve his burden until he rebounds, but in that you will become stronger as a couple. My love and hope is sent out on the ether to those who are having difficulty.

Another great Video Hazy. Interestingly I run a small WhatsApp group for people who love music where we contribute 3 tracks per week on a theme of a choosing, which then I throw into a Spotify playlist, 408 tracks so far . And on the back of your ‘show is your steak’ challenge last year, I ran a men’s mental health music theme, 3 songs that are from musicians with mental health or written about it or have helped us through difficult times. It was such a good theme, loads of interesting songs and story’s came through. So thanks for inspiring me and inturn others from bushcraft to music. Great!

@@HazeOutdoors Mate you are a legend you have done another great thing. Yeah, buddy, my channel has helped me loads, initially, it took me out my comfort zone which is what I wanted. It's thought me that I can control anxiety and it not control me. I did a show me your steak vid last year and it set me back a bit but nothing major. I have loads of empathy for people who suffer or have suffered from mental health. For the last couple of years me and the Mrs have taken part in the North East skinny dip up in Northumberland. It's a mint experience a right laugh, all for the charity Mind. Everything you said in this video is true and everything you said to do so it changes the balance is bang on buddy and definitely helps. Sorry to bleat on mate. well Hazey this is one i can do, as a chef the lock down has me at a loss , Just the sheer lack of routine i'm facing so i've turned to housework to create one, seriously its like a military operation for me every time i tidy the house it has to be done a certain way , feed the chickens , sweep the floors dress the little girl, then and only then do i get my morning coffee, then its onto a bit of d.i.y i've put off due to the hours i normally work and i'm in the midst of a few restoration projects. I've also got back to doing one of my favorite hobbies and that's bush craft and foraging, just to be amongst nature with the birds song and the thrash of new leaf growth rustling in the wind, so many new species of plants coming up in the hedgerows and learning there uses. Making dandelion flower tea and just sat drinking taking it all in, Now like you say i'm not one for chatting about my emotions even my wife says i'm a emotionally void because i find it hard to explain, i like to keep it to myself until it makes sense to me and then maybe i can explain it to them but nine times out of ten i wont, I get anxious in large crowds so Christmas shopping is lethal for me, Even supermarkets are sometimes a push, i'm on insta as i don't have the gear to make videos so i can film on my Phone and tag you there, take it easy chief .

I'm so glad I stumbled across this channel, I have struggled with keeping my emotions bottled up, from insecurity, self loathing, lack of confidence etc, my wife fucked me over by having an affair for years and I knew about it!? I was so weak that I tried to rescue the marriage for the sake of my son, I was fighting a losing battle and it nearly finished me.. I have custody of my son now and spend as much time as I can with him out in the wild, as we both share a passion for the outdoors 🏕🏞 its therapy and you can physically feel it revitalize your mind, body and soul 💚💚 Thank you Haze Outdoors for sharing your thoughts and experiences, you don't know how much it means 🙏✌💚

My dad's been going downhill fast recently, mother struggling to cope. We're having to help him to do a lot of things. Over the last couple of days all the bed decisions in my past, and all the time I've wasted has been weighing heavily on me and it's been the closest I've ever gotten to not being able to drag myself out of the mental hole I was in. I've managed to get out and do some fishing today, and that's really saved me. Tendinitis is hopefully FINALLY gone too so I can get some more exercise in. Hope everyone's keeping it together down here.

You probably won't see this post and that's ok, but I just wanted to thank you for your channel, I've tried to get over my depression for such a long time it's painful tbh. But watching your videos and appreciating your honesty, I actually bought myself a few bits for camping, I've only used them twice in my family's garden, but it's a huge step for me as I suffer with agoraphobia and depression, I've not been in work for a long time, but I can now, with a lot of sickness and forcing myself to do it, go for a walk on my own, I also watched a video you posted on my 50th, which was the mushroom samosas, or was it Packoras? I forget as I write this, I just wanted to say keep them videos coming, it's helping me so so much, thanks haze. Great job, love your food cook vids too. Additionally, I don't know how you are able to swim when so cold, I bet it feels great once dry and warm again. Thanks for contributing to my mental health for the right reasons 👍
