cocokai i dont mean to come off as disrespectful but I don’t think cultural appropriation is the correct word. According to google cultural appropriation is “the adoption of an element or elements of one culture by members of another culture.” There’s no element being adopted. (Usually it’s something like a clothing style, hairstyle, etc. ) I feel like you’re looking for another word to describe it but tbh i can’t think of it off the top of my head right now. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also I feel that the reason Ariel is able to be another skin color is because mermaids don’t really exist. I haven’t seen the rest of the casting list but I’m assuming most of the humans on land are gonna white because it is a danish story. But I feel like the main reason they are able to swap Ariels skin color is because her struggle in the story isn’t rooted in skin color. She’s just a mermaid who wants to be human. In comparison, in Tiana’s story, her skin color is important because she does struggle with racism (the two guys that refused to sell her the restaurant). In that story, Tiana would need to be played by a black woman, just as much as Charlotte Le Bouff would need to be played by a white woman. Prince Naveen imo would be able to be played by any race since his country doesn’t exist, like Ariel.
