Your Marshall also seems to have this "static" Sound in the High end. Especially on Palm Mutes. I've tried to get rid of it, different Boosts, using presence vs treble to Boost the High end, external eq after recording, its Impossible.

I agree I like amps on the bright side. The DSL has to be dark sounding for no fizz sound. I’ll take the forward mids in the EVH over the fizzy highs in the DSL any day. And the EVH does not need a boost. EVH amps always seem easier to play also.

Damn! That marshall sounds great! Of all DSL20HR videos i have watched so far, your video sound the best! This is basically early thrash metal sound that i love. EVH has more mids and sound much modern, tighter, maybe better for lower tunings. I'd love to see a comparison of DSL20H with the SC20H with the same riffs and guitar.

I appreciate you doing this comparison video! I already have the Marshall DSL 20 and ordered the EVH lBX stealth to replace a Hughes and Kettner that I could not get along with. In your opinion does the EVH take pedals well? As far as the comparison the Marshall sounded thicker which I liked. Don’t get me wrong the EVH sounds great too.

The Marshall sounded too high on the gain, kinda like that late 80s chainsaw gain. The EQ on the Marshall I thought was way better. Something missing in the video with the evh but that could be how the settings were dialed. Also most video makers forget to address the power setting on the back or the resonance knob. How you use the tubes will change the sound dramatically. Personally I like the prs mt-15 better than both of these amps

Through the innovation of youtube, I can gauge things. The Marshall sounded authentic. Great things said about the EVH, but it sounded like an empty cereal box here. That low end on the Marshall was killer. Esp at 4:16- Metallica riff. If you had them set the same, the EVH sounded shrill ( to my ears. Apple ear buds. ) Every guitarists taste is different and the settings on a KZbin video aren’t going to capture everything, but thanks for something to gauge on. Subscribed!

i have an EVH 5150iii EL34 50 watt and did a shootout against my Marshall DSL 20h that I just picked up and thought i was loosing my mind, I liked the dsl better . was playing to a foo fighters backing track (Somthin From Nothin). I like it better here too, now I want to try the 100 watt

The dsl20 is insanely good! Punches way above its weight. It was my favorite amp of all time that I've owned until I got my soldano astro 20. Still a VERY close 2nd though! Best amp for the money out there

Both are killer. If you're playing in a band and need to get over a drummer get the marshall, if you're just playing at home the evh is much more reasonable volumes

Have you ever tried the DSL15H? how does it compare against the LBX-S 15 at bedroom levels? I'm pretty much sold on the LBS, not gonna lie. It always surprises me how many people think they like the JCM 800 2203 when they actually like a hot rodded version of that amp, which is essentially what this DSL amps are at a fraction of the price, haha. Like, who played with one of those totally stock and no pedals? I can't think of anybody.

I haven't tried the dsl15. It doesn't have an fx loop which makes it useless to me. The 20 is pretty Loud though even at bedroom volumes. The lbx stealth is wayyy better at bedroom levels.

Leads sounded killer on the Marshall, hi gain rythm was a little better with the EVH. I Just ordered the DSL! Also...just fyi...I contacted Marshall, they told me that a rebias on the amp is not needed for power tube replacements! That's a win/win!

I have the 5150lbxs and love it to death. Now, I wanted to replace my Joyo Bantamp JackmanII XL for a much better amp... do you think DSL20H is a good cheap alternative for JCM800?

Absolutely. You can still get the jcm800 tones out if it, as well as plexi tones too. It has a lot more gain available then the jcm800 too. I have no reason to get an actual jcm800 since I can get any marshall tone I want out of the dsl20. It's one of the best value amps out there.

Given that I'm a home player/hobby type, the SC20 may just be way more than I'll need or ever appreciate. Especially at low volume. DSL20HR = more value and more sensible for basement heroes like me who kind of suck at guitar.

To me the clean sound is much better on the EVH. For the gain channel, they both sound great. Different but great. I own the EVH stealth and find the gain channel to be all gain all the time. The gain control doesn’t do much. But I do like it.

I watched another video of the v30s. Chinese vs UK. The Chinese sounded thinner. The UK -mesa ones were a lot darker beefier. Wonder if thats the difference? I just ordered a harley benton vertical 212 with v30s. I'm thinking of going eminence versions of the greenback. Gb128s To be exact. Idk if that will darken the sound a bit or not. Maybe even one of each? I have a gb128 in a 1x12 cab I built. We'll see!

the marshall had a better sound in isolation, but I'm willing to bet the EVH will work better in a mix (plus the cleans had more chime). The dsl20 has more bottom end and 2k+ sizzle; while the evh is more focused into the mids, with that 1k-1200hz bite

I really like the Marshall but the sound of the Stealth is more versatile in my opinion. I had the Dsl 1head and sold it because it was too loud. The 20w sounds huge and I love it.👌🏻Great demo man.

For me, it was the Marshall. I really liked the more low end, and seemed to be more harmonically rich. The EVH seemed a bit nasal for my taste. Did you use a boost pedal on either? and were they both playing through same cab? And yea., as usual im a day late and a dollar short on videos lol

I agree. Marshall is fuller but needs a boost. Evh is more aggressive and tighter and doesn't need a boost. The Marshall clean channel is pretty shrill and useless, the evh clean is great. Both are great for different things

@@gravelrocks5588 call me crazy but I’ve gigged with both a lbx and the dsl20hr, the el34s makes a huge different in headroom and how loud the amps actually are. My output transformer on the lbx crapped out during a show. The Marshall is still holding up.

I own the Marshall DSL 20 and many other amps. It's not even close vs the EVH lunch box. Marshall all the way. Verse the EVH El34 50 or 6L6 (which I've owned), no. But against the lunchbox, Marshall no question. The sound on this video doesn't do it justice.
