Dalton caught a snake outside and decided to show Apollo. It's a Black Racer if you're wondering.
Apollo is our 3 1/2 year-old African Grey parrot we've had since December 2020.

Fascinating how he thinks. He has been shown bugs and told they are bugs, so we think he knows what a bug is. But he has maybe made the association bug = living animal...

@@Nebol He uses the closest words he knows in his vocabulary…. And he’s shockingly good at it! When he seen rain for the first time and said “pour water…..fresh [clean] water”, and realized he’s not wrong… and how he put that together in his mind I was floored! My African Grey, Bo , knows all 4 of my kids by name, and even knew when they’re being naughty (would yell their name loud)…. Never taught him that. Learned it on his own!

I agree that Apollo is very smart. However, you also having to consider that they do need to keep at least some words from sounding too much like others. Don't get me wrong, hearing him mix up things like block and rock can be funny. And it'd probably be even funnier if he mixed up something like snake and snack. But there's also only so many words he can know, so it's better to keep it simple.

@@fergoka That’s just not true, your comparison is unnecessary and makes no sense at all lol. The parrot’s sentence lacks complexity, that’s a fact, but that’s not actually something bad, I don’t know how did you come with “hypocrisy and ignorance”, and yet, humans can imitate a lot of animal sounds and imitate their different tones, there’s a lot of videos of people confusing their pets by imitating their language, so I don’t know what you’re talking about.

I just love the conversation you’re having about classification, and Apollo is back there saying “it’s a bug” over and over again, like he’s not being heard. It looks like the millipede, which was a bug, therefore, snakes are bugs. But it’s just so funny, you’re arguing over classification of items and there is Apollo in the background saying “it’s a bug”. You can almost hear him thinking “dude, it’s not that hard, it’s a *_BUG_* “

These videos are insane. They're really showing how intelligent and communicative these creatures are- he has classifications for things, he groups objects together. He makes guesses. He uses touch to identify things and *asks* if he can touch something. Of course he thinks it's a bug. It's long, it's alive, it's wriggling and it's bug coloured. Those things are "a bug" to him. He's literally learning language in ways a child does, its crazy!
