Have you ever come to a tipping point where you’re who everyone else wants you to be, yet you’re not who you want to be? Have you people-pleased your way up the infamous ladder to nowhere only to realize you’re living a double life that you don’t love? Do you feel like a phony, stuck in your own personality-masking facade, unsure of who you really are anymore?
It’s exhausting!
Tabitha Brown’s story started that way, too. We know her as the friendly and encouraging voice on social media who serves up recipes, laughs, and life lessons, and reminds us to mind our business in the best way. But her journey to get where she is today started 20 years ago. And she didn’t always show up as the Tab we know and love. In this episode, Tabitha Brown shares her story and we chat about showing up for yourself, living in freedom and knowing your assignment!

That was so incredibly amazing, inspiring, and consuming all at the same time. I have just started a KZbin channel along similar lines and was watching one of my first videos to see where I could improve, and your video came up next. As daft as it may seem, I felt like the two of you were talking directly to me. Like God was talking through you. The entire interview I kept being absolutely flabbergasted. Thank you so much. I have no doubt that this is the path I need to be on, but after watching your inspiring interview I feel like God has sent confirmation. 🙏 ❤

11:31p.m. This was an amazing interview. Chrystal I love your entire family. I almost have an entire library of your fathers DVDs. I’m grateful for the time you took in interviewing Tabitha. One Queen interviewing another. She is spreading the love and yes this world need so much of it. I appreciate the fact that she says that she will not conform. I appreciate the fact that she doesn’t allow the haters to distract her from her calling and I appreciate the fact that she takes her marriage serious. May God continue to bless you both exceedingly abundantly above anything that you can ask or think.

Be willing to say no sometimes, especially when you are starting to feel and sense you need to take a rest to rejuvenate away from things that require a lot from you and out if you. It's nothing wrong with pulling back, allowing God to pour back into you or you taking time to catch up with you to be better for the those around you. Your yes and no is your currency. Use them well. You cannot say yes to every endeavor and you cannot say no to every endeavor expecting to get ahead in life. Balance.

Can I click like a million times! This resonated with me on sooo many levels! From losing my mom, the values she instilled in me that I am still learning from, deliberately cultivating relationships whether for love, friendship, and showing up for yourself and in spaces the way God intended. It’s ok to be selfless, selfish, and say No in order to show up as your best self! Whew lots to meditate on. May God continue to bless you both ❤

It’s so funny that Tab was on Chrystal’s list of people to have on her show. I have a podcast called “Sweet Mother” where I interview women about the lives and legacies of their late mothers. BOTH of these women are on my wish list of people to interview for my show because they talk so frequently and so openly about the impact their mothers made on their lives and the big hole left by their passing. In fact, when my mother passed from cancer in 2021, I listened to so much of what Crystal and her siblings shared on KZbin about the passing of their own mother from cancer two years prior. Sharing their experiences helped me immensely in my own time of grief and loss.

Great conversation! I love the segment where Tabitha shares about self care. That is so important. I am older than you ladies and I think I am finally able to be a little selfish. I taught for over 20 years. My daughter graduated from high school. Then, about a year later I became my grandson 's guardian. Even though I am a stroke survivor, I am writing, creating content on WordPress and KZbin. I have decided to do the things I enjoy doing. Thanks for sharing this conversation with us!

I really agree with people being afraid to bring their faith with them in certain spaces. I think it’s a conditioning from the experience like Tab mentioned in school, work, etc… the limitations as she says, conditions us molds us to be whatever makes others comfortable instead of being true to ourselves and allowing others to do the same.

This was so well spoken and needed to be heard. We as people or humans need to be ourselves instead of trying to be someone else's version in life. Great interview! There is an entire generation of children, teenagers and young adults being taught / choked, that wearing braids , Afros and natural hair is not good, and they won’t get get jobs and be free. This is part of the news in the Caribbean. In order for these young people to get jobs and move up in “ colonial society “, they need to act “right/ white”. We need messages like this loud and clear and other Black/ Brown / Asian and others discriminated against, support each other. Also, white is a color. Italians, British, Irish and other Europeans are the root of racism. It’s not a white man or a white Karen who are racist. It’s an Italian and Portuguese cop or a Jewish, Irish Karen. Also, when we travel to these countries as tourists and spend our money we support their behavior . When we purchase their products we are in agreement. The change is only up to us.

I love this. I got y'all on and playing while I work out and I totally feel like I'm in the circle with y'all...but I had to pause my workout to say: as a black nurse at a prestigious hospital another nurse told me that wearing a matching hoodie to my uniform was 'unprofessional'. (This was during the Trayvon Martin time.) However, it was totally ok for others to wear neon pink and electric green thongs that come out or show through their uniforms while working. Me being totally modest got slammed for having a respectful appearance in the workplace. I rolled my eyes and took a mental note. Now, years later my company sells monogrammed sweatshirts with hoods. I kept showing up as me anyway. I guess it wasn't so unprofessional after all.

Thank you, Chrystal and Tabitha for this amazing conversation. There were so many instances where something was confirmed or where I was reminded, especially about God’s love and His approach in leading us to and through His will. May God continue to bless you both. 🙏🏽💕
