It is worth buying outright. Ultimately cheaper than the subscription. I felt it was one of the smartest, most nuanced takes on humanity I’ve ever seen. Sure, it’s not Marvel, but what it has to say about humanity’s brutality and beauty is powerful.

Social Fiction, not Science Fiction - Zero effort script, no sci-fi intrigue, no plot, no drama, cheap comedy where the actors are mocking their own acting. - All the problems of space travel are solved by Mary Sue adaption in 10 minutes, by which time the alien has the expressions and accent of a typical middle-aged American man. - Zero effort at creating a meaningful drama - in one episode it's just a half dozen 'bad white men' who are all drug dealers, muggers, & bad cops after black people. Even the extras are all more leering white people in diners or police stations. - Zero plot - some vague allusion to the worlds ending, presumably from global warming. - Sub plot presented in 2 sentences was also able to weave in the broken health care system - Effectively breaking the 4th wall as the 2 cent writers of this debacle cut and paste from the latest leftist media talking points. - Nobody in America is waiting to hear more tepid narration of how whitey is keeping black people from saving the world. - Nobody is waiting to see a waste of good acting talent on script that one would expect from a middle-school film project. - Great if you like to see a lot of scenes saturated in orange, creating the timeless mood of dirty toilet water.

Much of this comes from lack of understanding of how demeaning it is when any story characterizers entire groups of people as cliches. For those who actually wish to see ''progress'' they would acheive more through the understanding that real inspiration comes through the telling of stories of great accomplishment with a focus on believable strengths and flaws and the nuance of conflicts which characters, of any group, may share. All of the hate that people push forth, based upon demographics, only serves the purpose of draining the peoples' energy and allowing the corpate machines to further their footprints - This show is a perfect example of this and of course does a great disservice to the talent of these actors, who deserve much much better writing.

I think it's meant to be closer to Steve Jobs. The character in "The Man Who Fell to Earth" brings technological advances that make him rich and famous. He's a tech guru, not a self-help guru. I never noticed how close the two have become until your comment. I guess that's how Elizabeth Holmes got away with it. They bought into the Massiah guru aspect above and beyond the actual product.

Not sure how the story fits together but both the movie and the series are based on the same 1963 book, however Chiwetel Ejiofor is playing a different character than was the lead in the 1976 movie and Bill Nighy will actually be playing Bowie's character in this series.

At this rate, at the end of the season, when the show gets cancelled, he would still be stumbling around and the lady lead would still be like "I don't believe you. Talk about a HUGE disappointment! Here we had a great idea for a fantastic show with unlimited possibilities. And what do we get? A boring, uninspired, poorly written, garbage series that lost my interest after the fourth episode. The writing is beyond silly and down-right elementary. This series is a prime example of how you can have great acting talent (which the show does have) but without writing and storytelling, you're doomed to failure. And the actor who plays the father, that would be a prime example of over-acting. This show just plain sucks.
