@@JasperMeurs /The quote comes from the excellent movie, "China Town" (1974) starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. It was nominated for 11 Oscars. If memory serves, the line comes at the end of the movie (quoted as well as I can remember), "Forget it Jake, Its China Town." Jack did an underrated sequel that is also excellent, "Two Jakes." - Especially if you like period pieces of 1950's (Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, etc.) That said......I would call the reference, 'obscure' to say the least.

This show is aimless. Flimsy conflict, no stakes, don’t know why people like it. It doesn’t even do what it should, make Wall Street, the elite, old money, look majestic, attractive, GRAND, like Wolf of Wall Street, Social Network. Doesn’t even focus on the main thing. Money. Great acting though.
@imacrazyman2711Ай бұрын
We should acknowledge “eat the rich” TV for what it is: not a cultural “reckoning” with the wealthy and corrupt, but pure, empty catharsis. The supposedly anti-capitalist satire neither shows us how to become rich ourselves nor how to get rid of the rich-or the entire game. There’s no way out. But what about the elite-can they handle being mocked and shamed as douchebags? Absolutely. Unlike the middle class, the elite are defined by their pragmatic, shameless discretion. They don’t care what people think; they care about what people do. Do they own anything? Trade is the only real action that matters. We’re all playing the same game, and those who embrace it shamelessly are the winners-just like the heroines in White Lotus.

I have never watched the show before but if I were to judge this clip as I did like what I saw, there was good enough a story to tell that kept me wanting to know what happens next despite all of that in what you said.

@ Definitely good scenes and interesting schemes but … watch the show. Waited 8 episodes for the show to settle in, never does. No pressing issues, they focus on stuff that doesn’t matter.
@ykx777Ай бұрын
real life isn't like those movies bud. you might be too elementary to see that it does focus on money. money is the central theme of the entire show, half the shit is only possible because of the money. like it or not almost everyone in this show has a ton of money, even the people prosecuting those with more.
@ykx777Ай бұрын
@@abrahamakuei you are silly to think going to jail or losing all your money is somehow no stakes.
