Great video! I have a couple things to add. I've had my 3.0 for a couple years now. Bug-a-beam: totally worth it. Helps if you need to reach or shoot at an angle where you can't really aim with the sights. And if trying to take out something large, you can be sure to be more accurate getting it into the centre of the spread. Came to same conclusion as you. Get the 3.0 if that's the only one you get. The Shredd-er is great if you have larger pests (like wasps) to take out but besides being a big too powerful for indoor use (or against something with a finish you care about), you'll need to use up the CO2 once you load it because it will leak over a few days. Whereas the regular Bug-a-Salt is just pump when you need it. As for window screens, I inadvertently came across another test. Tape a sheet of aluminum foil to the screen then shoot it from different ranges and see how far it punches the foil into the screen. The issue is if you shoot an insect on that screen, you might have a more difficult clean-up job if you punch it too hard and squish it in between the screen wires. Hope that helps someone with a purchase decision. 3.0 with Bug-a-Beam will likely cover 95% of use cases for 90% of urban folks.

I have a Benjamin pump up pistol in .177. I put a little tissue in from the breach and then pour a little salt down the barrel. Keep the barrel pointed up. Works great for those annoying deer flies. No Co2 cartridges to buy. Just a thought.

@champer slimmerthannone The barrel and components are made of brass. I’am not talking about a lot of salt. Just a pinch. And you can always swab the barrel after use. I’ve been doing this for over 50 years with no problem.

I was thinking about that Shred-er. You know what would make it a solid addition? A regulator valve to determine the strength of shots. It could even have positions. Paintball guns do this, and an updated model with a regulator would have a solid purpose against, say, just buying a Crosman Vigilante and some salt cartridges.

Dakotah Rickard that is actually a really cool thought. I wonder if that couldn't be something for a future iteration. I would imagine a possibility for a future model. You should email them, they are pretty responsive. Or maybe come up with a design yourself. I bet you could come up with some good KZbin material with that one, not to mention actually selling it. I am still a newby with the airguns. It was kind of a COVID thing for me as I couldn't get ammo to get to the range and reloading components (especially primers) were just as scarce. So I started playing around with the pellet guns (I can't do bb's because of the pool.) and then the Shred-Er came out. Thanks for watching and your comments. I read them all. 😁👍🏽

@@justanotheravgjoe1314 I really appreciate that. I wish I were more of a maker. I'm afraid I'm neither particularly handy nor able to design well for 3-d printing. I'll give e-mailing a try. I really like the airgunning hobby, and saltgunning is a useful extension of that hobby. It's also really nice to watch your videos as a low vision user. You narrate what you're doing, which means I can pretty much follow everything. Please be encouraged to continue making your videos. And don't be afraid to expand into other content. I love the salt- and air-gunning videos you put out, but I also appreciate your personability and your content delivery. That is to say, I like watching your content because of the way you present it. As a final question for you, if you don't mind, What's the mounting system used by the BugASalt guns? Is it Pickatinny or a standard dovetail? Thanks so much.,

@@dakotahrickard Thanks for the kind words. Bug a salt has their own proprietary railing, big and plastic 😁. That is why you may notice people rigging laser or other sights with other methods of affixing aftermarket items. The bug a salt laser mounts to the orange plastic muzzle and their camera mount is to their rail. the rail is kind of an oversize Pickatinny.

I would like to see you shoot the screen with the shred-er at more of an angle instead of straight on. A lot of my shots are done at an angle. I don’t think the salt will pass through the screen as easily on an angle say somewhere between 45 and 75 degrees.

I thought I had already replied, but I don’t see it here. So if it shows up twice my apologies. I will run a quick video when I have some free time with the shred-er on screen at angle. I am curious as well. The actual filmed angle was probably ~15 degrees. Not quite straight on but not a serious angle. Keep an eye out. I’ll try and post sometime over the next week.

The black fly 3.0 is great! I have problems with swet bees landing on my legs! Not anymore! I shoot them off my legs usually with one shot! No it doesn't hurt! The bees run for cover! Until I lay my gun down and pick up my phone! The loading port holds enuff salt for 80 shots without a reload...with just iodized salt from the shaker! It's a blast!

👍🏽, I do the same with the mosquitos at dusk, I let them land on my legs and shoot them off. Easier that trying to swat them in the air. Thanks for thinking of the insects' health by giving them their RDA of iodine, as they really can't find it naturally in nature and so usually their iodine levels are deficient. However, I think it's probably a little rough on them to administer it in that manner? -- BR

@justanotheravgjoe1314
@justanotheravgjoe1314 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know about the long term health to seals if left in. There seems to be a lot of differing opinions in the comments. But I have left them in for a week and still had enough CO2 to shoot through a shred-er salt cartridge. Another commenter said the same after a month. I am sure they all have at least some leakage, but I don't know to what extent that would be. Also we still have brand new seals, so as they age, I am sure that will probably become exacerbated. 🤷‍♂️

I haven't actually shot a CO2 from full to empty in once sitting, but I can usually get at least 4 sometimes 5 before it starts misfiring. I don't know how much CO2 leaks from seal when sitting on the shelf in the SHRED-ER. I would imagine a little more use if used all at once.

@@XellosMetallium After putting up the Shred-Er for the week (I actually have a job during the week 😁) I usually still have some life left in CO2 cartridge. Keep in mind the Shred-Er is brand new, so I imagine the gaskets/seals inside are still in great shape, as with all airguns, I would expect that to diminish over time. I have noticed on other videos that a drop of airgun oil is placed on the top of the CO2 cartridge when inserting, I believe this may be to enhance the seal and prolong the life of the gasket, these videos/sites often emphasize getting the correct oil, so as not to break down the gasket. I will have to look into that in the future. I am pretty new to air guns as I turned to them recently when regular ammunition became scarce and reloading supplies (mainly primers) disappeared from the shelves. Thank you for your comment.

Well, it definitely is made by Bug-A-Salt, but Bug-A-Salt gave each salt gun there own name. Bug-A-Salt is the (only) name given to the original pump gun that they make, that and a model designator 2.5 or 3.0. They (Bug-A-Salt) refer to the Shred-Er as Shred-Er making the distinction between the two guns. This can be checked on their website when purchasing.
