Great episode. The breakdown of rail and contours shed light on a number of subtitles I hadn't thought about. As always, I love the fin segments. Thanks

I was beginning to believe Chris was locked into a '6.0 headset' with his board reviews. I loved the feel he gave of connecting longboard shapes to craftsmen of substance. I dig the brash young , punk like, crew getting switched on with logs and different designs to shred right now!

Awesome ! Longboards have a lot of different shapes, thanks for digging into it. More longboard and traditional fish would be great ! Love your show !

Loved this episode. I've been riding longboards quiet a bit since 2005. The best thing about longboarding is in my opinion effortless glide and an ability to really be able to learn to read a wave. Noseriding is great and a ton of fun but just enjoying the ride is enough to make any true surfer grab a longboard and go cruising. Thank you for this episode Chris, super stoked on it bro.

Great episode. My dad surfs logs and none of the boards I've ever seen him on have rounded rails and convex bottoms. They've all had thinner, sharp rails in the tail like shortboards and concaves throughout. I'm gonna try to get him to try one like the Coda and see how he likes it.
@SurfboardShredShow8 жыл бұрын
+DecentIcons Thanks for bringing this up! You mention an important distinction; the 'shortboardification' of longboards when guys like Bill Stewart began placing thruster fin setups on longboards, or hardening the rails in the tail, etc; basically trying to bring shortboard ripping to the long rail lines and high floatation of traditional longboards. They're definitely out there in the water, and not all longboards have the convex bottom contours and soft rails like I mention in this episode. Guy Takayama's boards come to mind for example.

It's definitely the connection! My 1962 factory made board had a very similar shape & I could never master turning it reliably. Of course the fixed fin was way back on the tail too. Very true that the old bod finds it easier to paddle & glide You give a good tip - everyone should take the time to slow down & enjoy that connection!

1 + 4, Matt created this one with a single fin and a FCS quad set up. This was my first single fin. cruises like a long board but has way better movement.

Hey man great video! I live on the east cost in NC where the waves are usually... average or below. On uber small to regular small days, I take out my 5'4 Mini Sims, about 34.5 liters. I'd probably consider myself an intermediate surfer, still have a lot to learn definitely. I also have a 5'6 CI Neckbeard as my step up board but I often have trouble on it and feel like my experience level isn't quite there yet. What board would ya'll recommend for my experience level that would help me progress and get better, and still make the most out of the small east coast surf, but is still usable when the surf gets better and calls for me to move up from the sims?

That was a proper review of a long board. You should do a review on the Dead Kooks "Nausea" model sometime.

hey my name is ohr and i am a surfer from isreal. i think about buying the hypto krypto in the last few weeks. Now i started in the few last mounths to get into performances and i really care about speed and with the surfbaord that i has now i cant really catch speed. i surf at waves from 2ft-4ft and i weight about 60k and i am 1.74 tall. Should i buy it? if not can you recommend a better surfboard that is good for my level but not too expensive XD. Also i really love your show and keep doing it!

Brah, you are so in dangerous territory. The EXACT same rationale you use for riding a longboard is the same for riding a SUP. Fifth, sixth, seventh, even eighth decade? If you're not on a SUP you're no longer surfing. Who says surfing is reserved for the young?
