Their original cover of “Enter Sandman” was what got them “noticed” when their father posted it on KZbin for friends and family to see how they were doing with their music. It went viral and “The Warning” was born. That is the full cover of the song with the solo. They were 14, 12 & 9 at the time.

The assignment FROM METALLICA to Alessia Cara and The Warning was to change it up any way they wanted to, but keep the original lyrics. This arrangement is on the *Black List* album of covers. They were the only band to take a chance and follow the assignment! The original music video is slightly different from this live show, and features Alessia as a ghost projected on the basement walls of an old textile mill above the ladies of The Warning standing in three doorways. It is otherworldly creepy! They did the entire assignment in little more than a week, collaborating over the Internet with Cara, who was in Canada, during the pandemic. In 2014, they did a direct cover of the original, complete with a guitar solo that sounds like something from a 1960s garage band playing Jimi Hendrix. That video has 25.7 million hits...

Metallica gave instructions to keep the lyrics, but to turn the song inside out, upside down, make it their own. Originally collaborating with Canadian singer Alessia Cara. The official music video showing Alessia and TW singing separately due to the pandemic. When restrictions were over Alessia and TW had one opportunity to sing together live on stage. They have remained friends. Now they only have Alessia’s prerecorded vocals during live performances, but Dany always mentions Alessia as part of the song in their intro to Enter Sandman. In the music video Paulina does the prayer in a way that might give you nightmares. Daniela did the solo in their 2014 faithful cover. Here Dany is playing the Gibson Explorer gifted to her by Lzzy Hale! One of Dany’s priced possessions that she says is already ‘battle damaged’ from their touring.

Great reaction, the solo has already been done 10 years ago when Dany was 14. For this version of Enter Sandman, they had a deadline from Metallica to do a version to be included on their 30th anniversary Blacklist album. This was made all the more difficult as it was done during the pandemic. Check out Enter Sandman 2014 to check out Dany's solo along with Pau at 12 years old and Ale aged 8/9. Dany is more of a riff queen, but Dany will play solo's for the good of the song, not for the sake of putting one in. Cheers again shredder. Automatic Sun or Hell you call a dream. It takes more guts to not play the solo than to play it like everybody else does. 10 years ago she wailed on it. She used to care more about speed etc than she does now. But she has always played for the song, not for her ego… which blows me away since i often prefer to show off on guitar myself. She has so much self control… blows my mind.

It's kind of necessary to compose and stick to a composed solo when you play to a click track with other tracks that fill in the missing instruments from the studio version. Jon Anderson of Yes once scolded Steve Howe about his solos, telling him to "learn it the way he played it on the album, so he wouldn't mess up." That was after a particularly uninspired solo where Steve got off "into the weeds" with part of *Close to the Edge.*

@@matt8097 Makes perfect sense... Frankly, I think the solo in the original Metallica version was rather gratuitous. I'm glad they dropped it. Solo for the sake of solo is a head scratcher for me. I like the instrumentation to make sense throughout the song and the sound field. This is a structured rock song, not improvisational jazz. The way The Warning and Cara did it made sense to them and it stands as a brilliant presentation. The build-up near the end is anthemic. It goes from hushed to hysterical in three repetitions of a chorus, and then all hell breaks loose.

She does the solo on the 'original' over 10 years ago (when they were still kids, 9 12, and 14 years old). Metallica asked them to do this for their tribute to 30 years since the Black album, which they feature as the first track. Metallica asked them to play it any way they want, reimagine it, just don't change the lyrics.

These girls do not conform to the formula that there must be a guitar solo in every song. I find it refreshing and have say I don't miss them. She'll do a solo when it benefits the song.

Dany's solos are always composed, performed as composed, tailored to the moment in the song, and concise. She doesn't do the rockstar "straturbation" jam thing. My favorites are the 2018 Dakota Bar performance of *Show Me the Light,* and the 2018 Lunario performance of *The End.* She tastefully rips your heart out with those, and looks very casual while doing so. I nearly always back up and play those twice!

There’s a story behind the Gibson Explorer Dany is playing in this video: it was custom ordered for her by Lzzy Hale while The Warning was opening for Halestorm, and Lzzy gave it to her onstage in between songs. You can find video of the actual gift giving, as well as both women talking about it in interviews. As others have mentioned, there aren’t many solos in The Warning songs. They do a lot of riffs and fills, and they really let Ale stand out in the bass a lot; she has the best pitch and timing of the three, so she actually keeps Pau grounded far more often than vice versa. Dany does incorporate a lot of fun little guitar tricks into songs, like when she strums the strings above the nut at the beginning of “Automatic Sun.” But I think the lack of guitar solos is a reflection of the fact that the three sisters are equals in the band. Dany is the ostensible frontwoman, but all three can sing lead when necessary (Pau sings lead on about 20% of their songs, and both Pau and Ale can fill in on Dany’s usual songs if she needs to rest her voice).

For the guitar solo you have to go back 10 years in time, when they were little kids, Dany slayed that solo at 14 years old, you can react to that video or watch it on your own time but you'll see, this version was recorded for the bkack list album rendition and metalica told them to play their own version (actually they told everybody to do that) but after that cover of enter sandman the whole magic started and they got noticed!!!!

They do very few solos, they are not a metal band and never over-play. They are a pure rock band. Dani is not a shredder, she's a rock riff player. They write extremely well and most times their songs do not require a lead break and instead rely on good song structure. One does not need to shred to be a great player or a good band. Serve the song, not the ego. Just because one CAN do a thing, doesn't mean one should or must. Something most players these days don't understand, and why most metal bands nowadays sound generic and derivative.

I’m an older Gen X’er and I was very much a fan of the 80’s glam metal or Hair Metal or whatever you want to call it. I loved guitar solos back in the day just as much as the next guy. A well crafted solo can add a lot to an otherwise formulaic song which was pretty common in the genre. Dany isn’t a shredder, per se, but she can if she wants to. She has always claimed David Gilmour and Matt Bellamy as her 2 greatest influences. Dany tends to play very catchy riffs and do more melodic solos. Dany’s biggest function onstage is as a vocalist and performer and her guitar performance is slightly less essential as her voice is. If they had another sister or band member who could sing then Dany probably would concentrate more on her guitar and less on singing. If they had another sister or band member who could play lead Dany would likely be content playing rhythm and being her best as a vocalist. It’s pretty unfair to ask her to be a virtuosic guitarist on top of all her other duties in the band onstage. They all multitask onstage and I’m pretty sure there are a lot of professional musicians out there who have a hard enough time just playing their instruments correctly.

The Warning does few solos, whether guitar, percussion or bass ones. I think the reason for that is they are sisters who try not to keep the spotlight on any one of them. Everyone calls dani the frontman of the band but this is not how they think about this.

True, but us guitar players always want to be impressed with solos, otherwise there can be no guitar hero's. All genres outside of Pop, Punk and Grunge have instrumental solos and any virtuous is held in high regard.

@@ottokirk2325 it’s all good. I can appreciate that. Dany is a talented guitarist and vocalist. When The Warning write their own music they write their parts to serve the song. Dany does write solos that she describes are singable. They are usually very melodic and not necessarily a shred fest. A couple of her influences are David Gilmore and Matt Bellamy.

LOL, Shreddy gonna need some shred. Most genres have a virtuoso shinning thru., but this is where you get the Grunge formula, Muse influence as well. Dani's thing is singing over intricate riffs and constantly changing tones. She hasn't advanced her solo technique and you'll see that she keeps it simple and brief in her solo with Band Maid. But for a band, I'd pick Dani over the mass of shredders available. She is so strong in all other aspects and you cant deny the endless quality riffage that keeps coming forth.

If you are missing a guitar solo I would recommend their cover of Atlas Rise from February 2019. There is some serious shredding from Dany which I am sure you will approve. However The Warning usually prefer to showcase all the sisters and the song rather having one individual taking the limelight.

I believe Dime Bag was influenced to do pick slides from Edward Van Halen, who did them all the time, and he greatly influenced by Edward. Back in the mid-70s, Tom Sholz had some pretty epic pick slides in his Boston records. I'm sure pick slides were around before that, but the aforementioned artists definitely brought them to the forefront in that time period. I wish The Warning would have incorporated the guitar solo in their version, but their arrangement was pretty tight without it. Their original version that they did that went viral and was the springboard that launched their career, the did the solo,and killed it. Dany was 14, Pau was 12, and Ale was only 9! Check out that video when you get a chance.

If you watch their original cover of this song, 14-year-old Dany does shred, and does it quite well. I just think The Warning doesn't feel guitar solos are what they prefer to do in their music. If you want to hear really good guitar solos, listen to Love Bites. They will speed metal and do guitar solos by two lead guitarists almost every song.

I'm glad this version of Enter Sandman doesn't have a guitar solo. I grew up with classic rock when it was just called rock because it was new and played on all the radio stations. One of the reasons I didn't like a lot of the songs (and still don't) was because of gratuitous guitar solos. I prefer a great riff over a guitar solo, and The Warning always delivers on great riffs.

She was in Canada, covid, and The Warning was in Mexico. 7 days, they edited Cara's voice into what i believe their Enter Sandman version, but not released. 7 days? A new riff, cut the solo, add the verses "hush little baby" 3 times. Love their version. The end? You know they can thrash the original and just the 3 of them.

There are two things you don't understand. First, TW's fans go to concerts only wanting to hear the songs they remember faithfully reproduced oj stage. Second, Dany does play guitar breaks on some songs, but they are note for note the same from show to show because they are perhaps the best rehearsed band around and extemporaneous anything doesn't fit into their project. Csn she tske solos or shred, probably, but it is unlikely to happen the confines oof one of their tunes.

No shade to anyone who shreds-there’s a certainly a time and place for that-but there’s a certain amount of ego involved in it, which is something that is conspicuously (and thankfully) absent from The Warning. Whether it’s due to limitations in skill or just a conscious artistic choice to avoid the masturbatory trap of lengthy and indulgent guitar solos, there’s something to be said for keeping it simple. Dany plays to serve the music, tastefully, and without pretense, and I hope she never changes.
