Levi, FYI Rob Roskopp started Santa Cruz bikes but he sold it a couple of years ago. I forget who the parent company is now but he stayed on in some capacity I believe. They're one of the best mountain bike companies in the industry. Their world cup downhill team has been legendary as well with the likes of Steve Peat (former rider and current TM) and Greg Minnaar (the current goat). Robskopp has done a lot for MTB world as well which I think is pretty awesome and commendable. 🤘

They unceremoniously dumped Roskopp. Unfortunately they’re going very corporate. There’s an episode of the pinkbike podcast where he talks about it.

@@coffeecuprobot2802 Oh yeah thanks for the memory refresher! His contract expired and then just radio silence from the parent company? Didn't he actually tell the story on that PB Podcast episode or something? Seem to vaguely remember that.

I remember very well when Santa Cruz released the first "Everslick" models in the early 90`s...going down to my favorite skate shop in Johannesburg on that Saturday morning was epic! They had the entire series (including the Santa Monica Airlines Everslick series) all out on display...I bought an Eric Dressen "Hands" model and loved every minute of skating it...just last year I managed to find and buy a re-issue, loving every minute of skating again!

An odd one, but my first «proper» board was the Natas Kaupas Santa Monica Airlines-board, smuggled into Norway from Sweden, since skateboarding was illegal in Norway at the time, the Natas-board was one of the first NSA made for SMA i think? Also have the Dressen Everslick first edition, that was a *sick* board I still ride around my skateshop to this day, with my mismatched Indy-trucks and original grind kings mushed so hard into the baseplate they’ll never come out :D Love Santa Cruz and all their boards and Philips graphics, so much great history and such fun times had on their gear :)

My favourite was a Jason Jesse board in 90, that I suddenly got better at skating on. I learnt to impossible on it, so that was that boards tail wearing down uneven. I was doing impossibles like they were going to go out of fashion. Which they did, 18 months later. Annoyingly. Back then though, skating was still changing and developing and evolving. Late 80s early 90s, u didn't do "last years tricks". It was just weird how it was certain tricks. In 90 91, taking foot off was dropped. No complys, boneless etc. Then by 92 impossibles, front foot impossibles, late shoves and late flips were gone. By 94 people stopped flipping out of slides and grinds. It became simple but bigger and faster.

While I do love Santa Cruz skateboards and all the bring to the table, I can't help but be a little bummed out a good portion of the skaters are all goofy stanced. I myself am regular and I do tend to favor the reg stance skaters more (since for me it's easier to watch and pick up trick tips from) While I got no problem with the goofy stance (To each their own yeah?) But, it does make it a little harder for me to understand how to get my positioning on deck right for trying new tricks. Maybe when I make it on Santa Cruz, I can bring a change for the better!
