10:10 tbf a lot of it comes from the post movie stuff. I remember having a Shrek 2 or 3 DVD with a special feature where all the characters did American Idol. The one I remember most was "Hungry Like the Wolf" with the Wolf and the Three Blind Mice

I think Shrek not passing the Bechdel test shows the faults in using it as a measuring stick for women being represented in movies. Fiona , as a plot point, is antithetical to the stereotypical damsel in distress. Shrek bumbles his way into "saving" her, and proceeds to spend the rest of the movie essentially proving she was in the Tower by choice. She physically defeats a group of stereotypical male savior types singlehandedly. She acts "unlady-like" and it's portrayed positively. Hell, the movie condemns forced marriages even. Plus, it's a movie revolving around a relationship where the plot necessitates the heroine to be alone in a tower for the first/second act, suppose here could've been a scene of her talking to the dragon? That just feels superfluous to meet the standards of the Bechdel Test though. I'm not saying Shrek is a beacon of feminism or anything, just that you could definitely do worst with movies that do pass the test.

I think one of the funniest things about the production of shrek is that DreamWorks was also working on The Prince of Egypt at the same time and prioritized it as the main project because they thought it was going to be more successful. If an animator wasn't able to keep up or had messed up their work on The Prince of Egypt, they would be punished in the form of being transferred onto the shrek team. Within the studio it came to be called "getting shrek'd". I think this might have been in the early Chris Farley phase though, and if you've seen the projected art style and partially recorded VA from Chris Farley, you can see how it might have actually seemed like a punishment. They were sticking much closer to the book art style and Chris Farley was giving more of a Chris Pratt voice acting performance. They seemingly changed almost the entire movie after Farley's death, I think they were also given a lot more budget after Prince of Egypt released though too.

This movie is meant to be set in England. During the medieval period, virtually all English nobles were French to some extent. Robin Hood himself was one such noble making his French accent accurate. Amazing attention to detail from the Dreamworks staff.
