I would personally loooove a video showing how you do your water changes! It’s something 90% of us do once a week, so any tips you can show us would be great!
@crystanursie3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips. Just changed my water. I usually do like a 25% water change. Every week and a half. I have a smaller tank so I have to do them so often.

That sounds like a great schedule!

Yes, sometimes i even do waterchange Everyday, because lots of snails, both ramshorn and little pond snails inside my shrimp aquarium, but now assasin snails which i introduce to that tanks have lots little assasin babies 😆, so with decreased feeding combined with them, i hope i can do water changes once or maximum twice per month

I moved my like 120 ish painted fire reds because I moved and they’ve been set up in their tank for 2-3 weeks now and I am just now starting my water changes now so I let them get used to the new tank. I only lost like 3, but that’s good for that number of shrimp

My shrimp are new and some are pregnant. I dont want to shock them can i make up a big jug of treaded water and add some each day to the tank ?

Sorry for long message ahead of time but I like to give as much info as possible when I ask questions. I'm am an experienced fish keeper, but very knew to neocaridina red cherry shrimp. I just got six shrimp two weeks and 3 days ago. Keeping them in a very cycled 6.8 gallon tank untill my new 55gallon is ready. All my other tanks have fish, and I don't put anything in with anything I think might eat any other fish or shrimp etc. It's a well planted tank that I have minor hair algae in. I haven't lost any, they are molting, and two females are already carrying eggs as of yesterday 😁🦐. First question is the tank temperature does fluctuates slowly throughout the day the problem is not keeping it warm though so heater won't work to keep it stable is that okay? It fluctuates from 75.7 over night to 77.7 during the day. I've done two water changes and they seem to be okay after but again dripping water back in because my tap water PH isn't completely stable, and so temp does fluctuate but it's a slow fluctuation not abrupt? Last thing is I have a lid on the tank now so my giant duckweed is dying off do you know any good place to buy dwarf Water Lettuce online? I know that plant is more moisture and water resistant. Every where I look the shipping is more expensive than the plant itself. I'm sorry for the crazy question just don't want to have any fatalities with the shrimp I hate losing anything and my daughter and I have fallen in love with these adorable tiny shrimp. Thank you very much in advance.

Also thanks so very much for helping me become prepared for keeping these little guys. Water parameters, Cholla wood, Moss, and Indian almond leaves etc. ❤🦐🐌

Congrats on your new shrimp! The temp fluctuation is totally normal and fine for shrimp! I actually never use heaters and gradual temp changes during the day and night are safe. I find that the most hardy floating plant is frogbit (I've had them all) Unfortunately often shipping is more expensive then a plant like frogbit or water lettuce. When I shop online, I usually wait to put together a decent sized order/pick up a few things so a shipping cost is justified.

Thank you so much,❤ that makes me feel so much better, I have heaters but rarely use them only if it gets really cold out, or I get fish that need those steady tropical temps. Heaters are so unreliable sometimes. Also I will look for frogbit instead. 😊

I have a 2.5 gallon. Some died but some lived. 2 are berried. Any tips on maintainence?
@ShrimpLife3 жыл бұрын
A larger tank would help keep you things stable small water changes weekly and don’t overfeed.
@gothboy1743 жыл бұрын
Very informative as always! Do you consider topping off evaporated water as a water change? I have 2 berried females and wanted to top off the tank (it's approaching 25%) but don't want to alter the water parameters too abruptly. Do you have any advice?
@ShrimpLife3 жыл бұрын
Topping up is different from a water change. The water change helps lower TDS and remove waste organics and stuff like that but if you just keep putting new water and topping up you’re not removing the minerals and waste so it builds up . If you get into a regular routine of water changes then you won’t have too much evaporation. A lid is also a good idea if you notice severe evaporation.

Can you show how you do water change?
@Cruxity_YT3 жыл бұрын
What is it that you are feeding them to get them all huddled together like that?
@ShrimpLife3 жыл бұрын
I feed foods I sell in my shop (www.shrimplife.net) All natural and quality foods. Keep in mind, usually if you have a small amount of shrimp they won't react the way you see mine reacting. If you have 10 shrimp they more then likely have biofilm in the tank, so they won't react the same way to foods you offer. Once your colony grows you'll notice them coming to the front for food as the biofilm is less plentiful in a populated tank.

Thanks for the informative video. How often and what percentage water change do you do? Fred O

What I do for my shrimp may be different from what someone else should do. The main factors to consider are size of colony, amount of waste produced, type of shrimp, are the shrimp new, are the shrimp imported, tank size, filtration etc. I would not recommend more than 15% water change on small colonies or new shrimp. I do recommend regular water changes instead of just whenever you feel like it or whenever it gets really dirty. Once your colonies are established Neocaridina appreciate larger water changes then Caridina do.

But you use RO water right? I have hard tap. I was told I should just top off my tank and my shrimp have been doing really well. I will try this though.
@ShrimpLife3 жыл бұрын
I use tap with my neos, because my tap is in the ideal parameter range :)

Do you gravel vac your substrate? How do you do water change without syphoning shrimp babies?
@Cleeon3 жыл бұрын
I think shrimp keeper never siphoning all part at the bottom of aquarium, just some part which relatively safe
@ShrimpLife3 жыл бұрын
Yea like Cleeon said avoid gravel vacuuming. I feed the shrimp in one corner, most shrimp will go towards the food. Then I vacuum close to the substrate but I actually don’t touch it. I only do this when there’s dirt that I can see on the substrate but most of the time I pull water from the middle of the tank. When you have lots of babies it’s hard to avoid sucking a few up, use a white bucket let the dirt settle, use a bright light and you’ll be able to see the babies on the side of the bucket. Voila!!! 😊
@Cleeon3 жыл бұрын
@@ShrimpLife hmm... I'm learning too here, thankyou
@wuuzy19393 жыл бұрын
@@ShrimpLife I’ve asked this question to few other shrimp keepers and I find this type of practice of not gravel vacuuming strange to me. It goes against one of the primary principles of aquarium keeping, removing of waste that will pollute your water. I guess with the amount of plants and weekly water change it’s keeping the balance on a tight rope. Thanks
@ShrimpLife3 жыл бұрын
@@wuuzy1939 I understand your logic. But if your using sand, its easy to hover your siphon over it without tossing it, and still clean properly. If your have shrimp soil, the same thing, Its just a matter of not deep cleaning because its not needed, most of the debris sits ontop the substrate. If it got to the point where alot of debris started piling up in between the pieces of shrimp soil I would only then consider a deeper cleaning or tank reset.
