I keep neos and tigers on tap water but I like to age the water for at least 24 hours to bring it to room temperature, the same as my tanks. Every time I improve my actual rack setup, i have to go back to the drawing board for how I do my water changes. I try to use gravity (rather than pumps) as much as possible. I wish this part of the hobby was easier to do but it never will be so instead, I will spend tomorrow drilling holes in a plastic barrel for my latest iteration.

That's a great point. I don't want to drill my tanks so that will be an issue for me. Let me think up of some other ways heh

My shrimp tanks are on a homemade rack inside a under stairs cupboard. I was keen to set it up and built as cheap a rack as I could using breeze blocks and 2x4. Because my cupboard is limited in width (roughly 90cm) I lost a lot of room because I used a breeze block either side of each level. Meaning I lost 10cm of space either side of each tank. This meant I was restricted on tank size and could only use 45litre tanks. If I could Re-do it, I would of built the rack using just 2x4 which are more like 5cm on the one side. This would of given me greater space for larger tanks. Or just more room around the tank for pumps and wires. This only applies if you confined to a small space like myself. i have a disus rack set up, all the aquariums are connected to a sump that filter all the water. Can i use this set up with caridina shrimps?

The water will work but the temperature for discus will be a bit too high for caridina shrimp

Tank size is big .. myself i decided to go with 20gals atm i've 3x20gal high, 1x30gal breeder, 1x40gal, breeder on heavy duty MasterCraft racks ... with 20's and above i would use HOB's to deal with the surface film and oxygenation, it's more noticeable the bigger the tank. ie 100gal plus with just an canister filter. 14-16" cubes would be great on a rack... 5.5gal are tempting so as to be able to house so many types/grades of shrimp, but water parameters can change quickly. all my tanks have large cylinder sponges with small powerheads and HOB combo. Fluval LED's, heated by the room. ((( 5 tanks i can house 3 pure lines, high grade mixed, and a cull. ))) .... for maintenance and water parameters i went with Larger tanks, and so far am happy

thank you for your great informative videos. and, a question: what is the ideal height of water for breeding caridina shrimp? dimensions: 58cm. 40cm. 44cm. with about 8cm of active soil.

8cm is quite thick, I like the thin layer method more. Height doesn't matter it's surface area, 12cm is more than enough

@brent4754 let me see if I can find any links om designs, I know a few in my mind. A fully wifi one using dual doser pumps would be the neptune apex with dos but that's $$$

with a lid it dose not mater ... without 6-8cm should be ok
