How to make beautiful ornaments just in time for christmas using artistcellar stencils on shrinky dinks. NOTE: This is NOT a standard hair dryer being used. Hair dryers do not get hot enough and will not melt plastic. This is a HEAT GUN that is made to melt embossing powders. It can be found in a craft store or online in many places.

A 5" x 5" shrinky dink design is HUGE. There is a good chance that it won't heat evenly and curl weirdly and stick together. Just like mine did. But there's hope! Keep heating it and pry it apart as best you can, be careful though, it's really hot! Once the stuck part is apart, keep heating it so it lays as flat as possible, then press it with a plain ceramic tile to flatten it even more. You can't even tell where it was stuck together :-)

IngeniousOutdoors I’ve used a meat tenderizer to flatten out mine, Bc I did what this person did except with an actual heat gun and not a blow dryer. The only tricky part is correcting the craziness when/if the design folds in on itself. But I figured that if I have it out with me it’d be faster for me to correct rather than inside the oven..

Hi @lightningblazeplays! I wanted to let you know that I'm not using a hair dryer here, it's a heat gun. The difference is a hair dryer doesn't get as hot, a heat gun (you can buy at a craft store or amazon) gets very hot, hot enough to melt plastic and embossing powders, and of course, shrinky dink plastic. So a hair dryer for your head won't work :-(

Same way you use a hairdryer, just be careful cuz it gets a lot hotter than a hairdryer. So either uses a long wood skewer in the hole to hold it in place or use heatproof gloves so you don't get burned. I also don't keep it in one spot I move it around a little so it doesn't shrink lopsided.

Why wouldn't you just put them in the oven on 325 degrees...what a major waste of time

I beg to differ... Getting toaster oven out and preheated: about 15 minutes. Baking shrinky dink: about 10 minutes. Cooling shrinky dink: about 3 minutes. Letting toaster oven completely cool before putting it away: 30 minutes. SHRINKING WITH HEAT GUN: 3 minutes 37 seconds.

Dear God. Timelapse. please. Was not necessary to watch all this in realtime. Skipped 90% of this video js

Katie Furze thank you for the constructive criticism. Some people might want to know that it only takes about 3 minutes for this process to work. And see how it curls and distorts while heating, and what to do. A time lapse would not be able to convey that information. Thankfully you know how to fast forward so you only wasted 20 seconds of your life instead of 3 minutes 37 seconds. Have a nice day.

@@artistcellar6722 I feel you could easily still convey that information by saying it only takes 3 minutes and narrating or adding captions to explain :)

Makhaya McKinney LMAO Actually you are talking to me because I’m the one who made the video and that’s my hand NOT BEING BURNED. I own that channel and video and business (and unburned hand!) So let’s not be rude, okay?
