One more scene not mentioned by the 3 honourable writers was - when the couple goes to visit their relatives, the girl child is asked to eat later with the mother when her brother is allowed to eat with the guests.. Another scene is how her sister in law convinces the mother in law to come abroad as there is 'someone' (the DIL) to care for the men in the family.. innate woman against woman situation..

The last scene where the girl makes them drink the waste water is probably very shocking but that’s what everyone who is in her position wants to do! There are a lot of us who bear this oppression throughout their life or at various stages, swallow it as a bitter pill and move on. But the emotional scarring that they experience cannot be compared to her reaction. It’s befitting because rewind a little bit and watch how her husband treats her when they are intimate. That action of her husband snd his words are even worse.

I'm pausing the video in the middle and posting this comment. Just like you ma'am:) because I couldn't accept the fact you said, " why she (heroine character) didn't try to make them understand about her needs and expectations? Why don't she wait until they understand her?". I don't feel sorry to say, THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE ! 1. It's not her responsibility to make them understand about a woman. It's not a responsibility for any woman to explain her to her family. It's family's responsibility, it's her husband's responsibility to understand/practice how a woman should be treated in the house. it's then men's "inability" to get married to a woman without even knowing the purpose of marriage. 2. Because when we try to explain them, they don't understand (I'm not saying every men though). Because the men in the family got used to it. Generation by generation! 3. She is smart enough to express her anger and come out without explaining (without wasting her time, anymore). Because if the men is capable of understanding her, they would have understood it with the previous generation women of the family (mother, grandmother, so on... ) Should be the reason director showed all those historical pictures of the ancestors of the house (to my understanding). 4. And you said, "oru pennuku yen ivvalavu vanmam?". If pouring that dirty water over those men of that family is (so) called "vanmam", then asking her to pickup the tooth brush for him, eating like a piggie on dinning table and expecting the women to clean it before "their" next meal (can they have their Next meal in the same table of it's not cleaned?) is called what?? I would call it as the same "vanmam". 5. That man neglected her need in the kitchen (plumbing issue) as well as her need in the bed. all he wants is "moonu vela soru"... COMMON SENSE CANNOT BE EXPLAINED OR PREACHED.

I am so disappointed by your comment that the female protagonist should not have given her spouse and her in-law the drainage water and instead she should have explained and made them understand her problem. A. She did try to indirectly (restaurant, bedroom scene and requests to fix the drain pipe) B. It is not her responsibility to drag these patriarchal men (and some women) to the 21st century, instead the realization for men should come from within. In fact giving them drainage water is a very small outlet of her frustration. The mindset that physical abuse is the only form of abuse is backward thinking. Patriarchy has subjugated and enslaved women for centuries in the name of culture and religion. It’s high time women realize and break these chains. Please don’t put onus of educating men on women , it’s high time men grew up !!

I think your perspective of looking at a woman is totally different and weird. You have forgotten a lot of points from that movie. Oru Padam full ah paakama naduvula pause panni neenga pesanumnu solra alavuku neenga our aaniyum sollala. That movie is a perfect portray of women these days. Even my friend who is married and in Kerala right now she is going through the same. 1. she is educated and her husband or that stupid family doesn't support it. 2. why sex is more important in family life and even women have feelings so men need to respect that. 3. Both the men in the family are not treating women properly 4. People need to understand the person cooking in the kitchen and should be contented with what they want. 5. They treat periods like a sin 6. He has zero respect towards his wife 7. When she leaves him he doesn't bother about it and gets married to another woman and going into the same routine. I feel pity for you. How come women like you holding the mic and speaking boldly bad about this movie? I don't understand how people are encouraging this. Are you happy about your mom being in the kitchen all these 30 years? If she was left less time in the kitchen she would have achieved a lot more than what you have done now. seriously I feel ashamed of watching this video.

One more point! They way she bursts out at her younger broher, the pent up frustration breaks out. The men of the house are not bothered about any thing other than their happiness and bliss. First mother in law did the work, then she came, when she was on her 1st period the other lady came, then father in law's sister came. The 2nd time she got her peiod was the worst. She is constantly told so many things by the aunt while having to adjust in that tiny room with no ventilation that too for 7 days (pls notice that all the doors and windows are closed). I'm not justifying the act of the sink water but the subtle message here is, that girl is standing in that stench and dirty water constantly for the past say about two months. Imagine her plight. Husband also sarcastically says you have problem with waste isnt it when she reminds of plumber.
