I'm without a vehicle right now, but I have my bicycle. I go to the store for small amounts of things needed, put them in my backpack and roll back to the house, also it's good exercise.

@31kiloradioraven63 So how do you secure your bike while your in the stores
@31kiloradioraven6326 күн бұрын
@yakfishin4912- cable lock through the wheels around the frame or I park it inside the store, of course with permission 😄

WE LIVE IN FLORIDA, and experienced "NO GAS" during the post-Hurricane Irma in 2017. Literally no stations had gas, or could pump it due to lack of electric power. Thankfully, we had a 5-gallon gerry can of gas for our lawn mower, and were able to ration our trips until gas distribution was revived. NOW, we constantly keep our car at least half full - and absolutely FULL over the weekends and holidays. Bikes and other transport won't due in our area - too far from everything !

Once you have been through it you get a good understanding of what you need and what you were short on. It’s a great learning experience
@reliableprepper25 күн бұрын
Hey Mary, that's a great point and an excellent strategy! Keeping your tank at least half full is one of those simple habits that can make a massive difference when things go south. I also like how you mentioned the 5-gallon can for emergencies-that's a solid backup plan. It's crazy how quickly gas becomes a hot commodity after disasters like Irma. Staying prepared like you are now is the best way to avoid that panic next time. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I have a couple bicycles and wagons that can be hooked to them. I want to buy a 7 speed adult tricycle with a basket on back as soon as possible.

The tricycle bike are a game changer for moving things easily. Surprisingly they can haul a good amount of weight in their rear basket

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this and my best conclusion is a scooter.. Here's my thoughts about it, first it's decently effective especially on roads (they have off-road ones ) second it's light enough you could fold it and cross rivers , any obstacle with relative ease , going down steep mountain roads you still have a safe way to steer and brake . Very simple almost nothing can prevent them from working

I came to the same conclusion.

at no cost to anybody, walk. just need good shoes and socks. second is a good mt bike, but you must be in shape to use. third is a small pre 1970 motorcycle, NO electronics. small motor, easy to work on. light weight to move around by hand. third is a jeep. pre 1990 cj-7 or cj-5 older. set up for off rd, not a street pounder. then gear, as you need. got goats? great pack critters, easier than dealing with donkeys, or mules. great for walking with.

I have a foldable garden wagon that my dogs can pull with a light load. We practice that sometimes at camp

Nice to be able to take your garden with you
@jaymclean2604Ай бұрын
@prepping4tomorrow only way I can do that is with seeds, brutha. Seriously tho, check out those foldable garden wagons. What I do to practice is I carry my backpack on my back. Put water, and many other supplies in the wagon. I keep it around 60lbs and the dogs can pull that no problem. Thank God my camp in the middle of nowhere, I'm sure we look funny walking circles around the yard with a wagon.

I wanna get one of those electric bikes with the off road wheels. They are quiet and reliable enuff can be brought inside charged with usb. Not cheap but good. Been looking at them
@prepping4tomorrow29 күн бұрын
I would go for a bike that can handle being off road but remember to have a backup way to charge it.
@larryjanson401129 күн бұрын
grid down that toy bike is dead weight. you would get a couple hr ride time after sitting for four-five days of charge time. on a pedal bike you could be a couple hundred miles away by then.
@improvisedsurvival596729 күн бұрын
@@larryjanson4011 peddle bike are good too. I figure if I got the electric one the gas 60 miles range on one charge that’s basically motorcycle. They have usb charging there are solar chargers that will be able to charge it. Low energy requirements. Wouldn’t get the cheapest one I’d do my homework and get simplest most durable model.

I have walked to and from for years now, I knew that a car 🚗 would be hard to afford, insurance, Gas, repairs I went years without a car , I finally gave in and bought a cheapie and it's still too expensive 😢 So I only use it for Groceries I walk as much as I can , I Love ❤️ my Bicycle But even Bicycles can break and get stolen.... So I plan all my preps. Based on my Backpack and practice and Live it......... Minimalist Mindset.........

very true. but a good dog is also a great security item. and friend. with a couple rotts or larger dogs. they can pack a lot of weight. so can carry water and there food. and protect you if need be. a small dog pack of loving work dogs and you are very safe. couple rotts for the "heavy stuff. and a couple boarder collies for keeping the goats in line. goats for pack critters. food, milk, cheese. if you can take the smell. but less is better.

Hey Richard, you’re absolutely right-when it’s a real SHTF situation, you’re grabbing whatever you can get your hands on. Ideally, you plan for lightweight, calorie-dense options, but in the chaos of survival, you don’t always have the luxury of choice. It’s all about adapting and making the best of what’s available. Appreciate the reality check!
