SHTF optics Prism scopes Trijicon Acog Vs budget Vortex 5x spitfire gen 2 for rural / homestead use

Updated to add the Vortex does have an adjustable eye piece and works well with glasses.
Trijicon Agog is the Queen of the battle sights, but expensive. I got a Vortex 5x spitfire gen 2 for $200 at palmetto state armory and that is hard to pass up. I added a dual illumination Trijicon RMR with an adaptor.

with that setup you can use the RMR up close and the 5x to reach out or identify targets.

Yes, I found out the Vortex does have an adjustable eye piece and it works well with my glasses. I'm really liking this small prism scope!

If you never experience the clarity and field of view of a 4x ACOG, then you’ll never want one. Once you do however, nothing else will suffice.

That is so true, and why I own a few. If I let someone shoot my rifle, I warn them that they will want to buy one!

I got the same optic. I threw it on a Ruger American 223 22". The bolty doesn't blow gases back while I'm looking close to my optic

Thank you for sharing this video. With around 700 price difference between these 2 optics. Would you say the acog is definitely worth the extra money?

You can tighten the gap a bit more with a used acog, but at $200 the vortex is a great buy but not at full retail . If you can go to a shop and look through both that would be the best. The acog is built better and zero batteries. If I could only have one it’s be the acog, but if money was tight the vortex would work great too.

Unfortunately it was not turned on. It’s pretty visible when on and in ways better than acog as you can adjust it.

Probably should get a pair of binoculars to identify people and not use your scope.

If you’re going to overwatch your neighbor’s property get some binoculars so you’re not pointing the rifle all over the place.

Good point! I have binoculars, but in a shtf scenario you could use a mounted prism in a pinch.
