All Shinigami have zampakuto and kido, kido is split in three different types, bakudo for defense and restraining, hado for attacking and kaido for healing, and all bakudo and hado are numbered 1 through 99 in both difficulty and power

There’s also Hakuda which is basically unarmed close combat aka Taijutsu. Hoho which is about fighting at high-speed such as Shunpo (Flash Step). That’s all 4 basic fighting styles for Soul Reapers.

@@regarvnk9841 Kido is the overall spiritual magic system they have, Bakudo is a type of Kido that deals in defence like barriers and seals. Hado is a type of Kido for offensive means, there are extreme version called Gisei Hado which requires to sacrifice something, like Yama did with his arm. And the last type of Kido is Kaido which is used for healing.

Hisagi's Shikai is the only one that is noticed by the captns, he sure is in a level similar to Ikkaku in his bankai, not quite captn yet, but closer than other leutnants.

This comment is since Mel seemed to be struggling with the concept of Kido in Bleach: Kido are the "spells" that the Soul Reapers use, but be warned: They are split into three different categories, which are offensive, defensive and support, so if Kido is the "spell", then the categories are the nature of said spell. Hado are the offensive spells category, they are what is most commonly used in the series. Notable characters that use them are Byakuya and Rukia; the highest known number is number 99. Bakudo are the defensive spells category, this can be anything from binding spells to barrier spells and even seals. Notable characters that use them are Byakuya and Hachi; the highest known number is also number 99. Kaido are the support spells category, these are the ones that are meant for healing purposes and are rarely brought up in conversation, so little in fact, that we don't even know if they are numbered or if they are simply a power someone can turn on to use though Bleach's wiki implies that they are not.

Even the start of their fight, Shuhei said something like "you're not even as strong as our 5th seat" with him replying, "yes I was fighting at a 5th seat level". That statement there is a hint that he was misjudging a soul reaper's level, at least that's how I took it. There's gonna be a few more scenes that were censored from the manga version in the rest of these fights. I can think of 3 off the top of my head.

Funny enough, in the manga Findor's death was less graphic. Instead of him shooting a cero and Hisagi throwing it in the center of it. Findor tries to run away and Hisagi just threw it at him while running. The anime did this a whole lot better than the manga, a rare time that the anime be better than the manga.

In the second episode there's a small bit of characterisation I really really love and it's when Yumichika (eyebrows guy) realises that Ikkaku has lost. In the last fight where Ikkaku uses bankai Yumichika is really chill when Ikkaku looks beaten but in this fight he panics and tries to run to him, showing just how much he and Squad 11 in general actually really care about each other even through all the pride BS. It's only a small showing a minute or two but I really love seeing that side of someone we have only ever seen collected or angry, just the panic in his eyes is an amazing side.

So I believe the system of Kido encompasses the phrases they use during the attacks as well. For example, you hear them say "Bakudo" or "Hado" but they're all forms of Kido. Can def be a bit confusing.

Shuhei bankai was made for Reaping souls and the fact that he doesn't like the shape of his bankai, it resembles the same scythe as an actual soul reaper. Shuhei is the type of guy that does not like his bankai

You're right about the animal inspiration for each of the Arrancar, but the first guy is a pistol shrimp, not a lobster, and the second is a whale (notice how the lines down his front are like the markings on a blue whale).

Hisagi's Shikai Kazeshini is probably top 5 best and most impressive in the entire show ! It's fast, strong, spectacular, the sound it makes when it cuts and move is glorious...even if it's middle to close range it's still versatile. It's worthy of a Soul Reaper !! Hisagi himself is also top of the Lieutenant, the most complete one...a lot like Kaien Shiba was ! I only see the lieutenant of squad 1 being maybe bettter...

Ikkaku might not be able to pull of Bankai anymore actually. At the end of his fight while using his Bankai, you can see a part of it break and fly off. If your Bankai breaks, It won't ever fix itself... Unless a certain someone repairs it.

The 69 on hisagi is from the once captain who is now visor who has the 69 on him with the short knife. He saved him from a hollow on that captain backstory before he got turned hollow

Both bakudo and Hado are types of Kido.(The way you can think of it Hado is translated as Way of Destruction Making it mostly offensive moves,while bakudo is translated as binding spell) making Bakudo something mainly used as a defensive move."Or way to restrict the opponents movements".

Kido - soul reaper's "magic" in general ("ki" means energy, "do" means path or way) Hado is attacking magic (I assume "ha" is a short version of the word "hakai" - destruction) And bakudos are binding or protective spells (barriers, paralizes, shields etc.) Ps. At least this is how I understand it. Might not be 100% accurate. =)

This fight between the giants is the one anime adaptation from the manga that I absolutely hate. If you read the chapters, there is no fight. The arrancar yawns and starts the cero, but loses it when the captain uses bankai. The samurai is so huge that it leaves the whale guy in it's shadow, and destroys him in a swing. No contest. Which is why ikkaku was so in awe.

Ikkaku´s bankai is broken at this point of the story,we learn about it way later in the manga.That´s why he didn´t use it when defending the pillar.

Findor’s whole thing was kind of bs since all Lieutenant’s are seen as Captain Level Shinigami there is still a power differance between the two but nonetheless they are still Captain Level Shinigami otherwise they wouldn’t be Lieutenants and to clear Mel’s confusion most Shingami are proficient in Kido (Like Steph said Kido is like spells, Bakudo is kido barriers and seals while Hado is attack based Kido) Shuhei is probably the most proficient in Kido out of the Lieutenant’s along with Hinamori, Nanao, and Isane though

Kido is simpler than u think, its divided in Hadou from 1 to 99 to attack, and bakudou from 1 to 99 to defend or bind, the higher the number the stronger the technique, few shinigamis are able to perform 90+ level kidou. Whereas arrancars only have cero and bala

You gotta to remember that almost all characters are getting stronger all the time. And that "Captain" or "Lieutenant" level is a general distinction. Its just the bare minimum spiritual energy or reiastu they'd have. It doesn't mean that they are comparable to the current Gotei. ALSO all the characters especially Captain vary in strength so much their is no point in saying something as vague as "Captain Level". Lieutenant can be can strong as captains and Hollows can be as strong as Espada. There's no limitations. (There are actually Hollows stronger Espada in the LN).

Having a Bankai doesn't automatically make you a captain. Rather, it is a prerequisite to becoming one. With the exception of Zaraki Kenpachi, all captains have a bankai. Renji and Ikkaku are not the first instance of a Lieutenant having a bankai. Chojiro, Yamamoto's Lieutenant, has a bankai. Aizen when he was Shinji's Lieutenant almost certainly had a bankai. Tosen had his bankai back when he was just a seated officer in Squad 9. Hitsugaya also achieved bankai before even becoming a shinigami and was assigned to 3rd seat when joining the gotei 13. So despite one's power, or lack thereof in some cases, one still has to go through the necessary process to become a captain. Tosen already explained the 3 ways someone can become captain in his fight against Kenpachi.

I mean, if you're going to handicap yourself and insist on only using part of your power then you sure as hell shouldn't then go and lose, especially in a high-stakes situation like this. Not only does it make him look stupid (everything Iba says while scolding him is both true and obvious), narratively it's made even worse by the fact that he's the only one of the four that lost. Yumichika hides his true strength too but he actually won his fight and so he gets a pass for backing it up. (TYBW arc spoilers) Even Yhwach calls out this dumbass sense of pride when he kills Yamamoto. Dude really should have just let Orihime give him back the arm.

And i agree with iba except i dont think ikkaku hid his bankai because of pride also tybw spoilers: and with ikkakus weakened bankai would he have even won?

@@mariusIlII That makes no sense lmao. No shinigami uses their bankai to "get praise from others". They're a goddamn military organisation that is, at this point in the story, trying to protect the hundred thousand people living in Karakura as well as reality as a whole from Aizen. Holding back to the point of loss in such a situation is stubborn, stupid and arrogant. Even if he used Bankai and still lost, he still would've *tried*. Like Iba said, nobody gives a shit either way about how he works, he can fight however he likes but he's on the battlefield as an officer to do a job. If he wants to limit himself then he has to be strong enough to do that job while limited, it's that simple. Izuru doesn't like fighting and Hisagi doesn't like his shikai but they *did their jobs*.
