They specifically began to use clothing as a way to easily denote class, and then followed that with gender. The main point of assigning of gender to clothing, was to ultimately subjugate women! By placing more emphasis on a woman’s body, they also instigated the culture of women’s bodies being objectified. Women today have no problem wearing clothing designed for men, and there are even designs for women, called “boyfriend”! Designers recognize that women will wear whatever makes them comfortable, so you can actually buy “boyfriend” jackets/shirts/pants! Your issue ISN’T the “pencil skirts”, it’s more that you have insecurities about what it means to be a man. Clothing has NO gender, other than that which humans choose to assign, or NOT to assign. Feeling justified to criticize one person’s choice of clothing for your own personal reasons, IS NO DIFFERENT, than what the women in this post are doing.
