SHUT DOWN AT THE SCALES!!! TRAILER TOWING 'TATOR TIME!!!

It's just me and the 'Tator on this, seemingly, simple job. Two drivers get shut down at a scale house due to a cracked trailer frame and the company calls us to tow it to our shop and perform the repairs. I called the officer at the scale house to ask if he would allow us to tow it from the site before I left the shop and he politely agreed. So....I take the 'Tator, our Peterbilt 389X with a Miller Industries, Century 1150R Rotator, on a little trip north to pick up the damaged trailer. For some viewers this might be the first time seeing the fifth wheel attachment we use to connect to and haul trailers. Hope you enjoy this, different, yet satisfying job. As always, thanks for watching and God bless!!!

There are many questions, assumptions, and negative comments regarding this video. There are also many positive comments and people who state they learned a lot from this video. I appreciate all the positive comments!!! This is a family-friendly channel and our community works hard to remain positive, educational, and uplifting. Now, please allow me to explain a few things for those of you with questions, assumptions, and negative comments. First, the CUSTOMER called us to pick up their trailer and perform the repairs. The scale house only shut the trailer down....they do NOT dictate who can repair or tow the trailer. The CUSTOMER has the option to call whomever they choose. Second, towing with a traditional tow truck VS towing with a road tractor.....there are many reasons, but primarily it comes down to liability. We specialize in towing damaged vehicles and have the proper insurance to handle these situations. It may not make sense to some, but this is what we do for a living and this is part of our standard duties. This type of job is very commonplace. Third, I mentioned the possibility of having to chain up the damaged axles/sub-frame, but upon inspection found it unnecessary. Finally, the drivers were very respectful and were able to communicate effectively with me and the officer. PLEASE stop with the negative comments about the drivers. They were working and trying to make a living. We have been attempting to hire people for several months and are having difficulty finding people who want to work for one reason or another. There are restaurants, stores, etc., that are shutting down or limiting their hours because they can't find people willing to work. These drivers were willing to work and showed that they cared about what they were doing by their actions. I will ask again, please do not comment negatively about these drivers. Constructive criticism is always welcome on this channel. I have learned a LOT from my viewers who address things in a respectful manner. Please help us keep this a family-friendly channel which is open to ALL walks of life. Thanks for watching and God bless.

Always enjoy the FAMILY FRIENDLY content Ron. Unfortunately I've found that if some people don't have something to complain about they seem to have no self worth. It's a shame be we see it a lot these days. I work in the auto industry and it seems the vast majority of drivers we deal with are of foreign birth. I drove class A for many years and can tell you it's not the easiest of jobs. I have a lot of respect for someone getting out there and hustling to make a living. Period! Keep up the great and keep posting the videos. God Bless and Be Safe

Two reasons, government is paying Americans to sit at home and collect unemployment. Two, government is importing foreign labor to undercut American wages. I don't blame the drivers, I blame government.

Hey I thought that skid plate attachment was only rated for 25k? Not trying to be negative that’s just why I always sling a trailer but I was curious when you said it was designed for a loaded trailer?

I want to take a moment and commend that driver. He was unsure, and wanted to make sure he understood everything, and that everything was in fact what Ron said it was. He was making sure HIS butt was covered. Sure this may slow things down for Ron, but in the long-run, that's smart. Good way to keep your job.

Everyone hates the DOT Inspections, but that trailer is one of the reasons they are there. If the damage was not noticed at the scales, can only imagine what could have happened with the trailer loaed and coming apart on the freeway. Glad they caught it before a disaster. When you are done with the repair I'm sure it will be better than new. Awesome job and video.

I'm glad u explained the small 5 wheel isn't designed to carry heavy loaded trailer, 😊
@stuinNorway
@stuinNorway 2 жыл бұрын
Re : Chaining up the T-bar, my understanding there is that not only does it prevent the twin pivot points allowing the t-bar to rotate and potentially strike the underside of the trailer, but if it swingt the pivot under the 5th wheel would be at the wrong angle. It should only ever be able to tip front to back, as it it were to allow tipping sideways (if t-bar swung 90 degrees) you risk the trailer deciding to lie down and take a nap. (Then you really would need the rotator) Similar to when rigs turn the tractor unit too far when trying to get a trailer back out a ditch and losing the trailer over completely.

Hi Ron. Love the video. I'd like to see a "Day in the Life Of Ron." From the time you get up till maybe you get to go to bed that night. I think it would be interesting for everyone to see it's not all towing. Thank you sir.

There's a Channel that focuses on their concrete business and the guy starts his videos the same way taking his garbage out going to get cofffee at the convience store. It would be nice to throw a 1min Ron's life clip at the beginning or at the end.

Ron bet you feel like a road warrior driving your extra large unit when you're pulling those 53 footers down the road 🤪 Slowrider from Carolina 👍

Talking about a long nose 👃 Peterbilt it's almost half as long as the 53 ft trailer he's pulling down the road 🤪

I love the light bar vs pig tail explanation. With the light bar you don't have to worry with the ground gremlin. It heck to see a rig at night with flashing trailer lights til he/she stops.

I'm wondering why you didn't use the Mini Pete, since you didn't need a 'Tator, just an underlift. Was it possibly because you didn't know if the trailer was towable or because Big Pete was your duty truck for the day?

I was thinking the same thing. But figured the other trucks were out already. What a problem to have. I do like the little Pete.

He could've used Truck 17, and saved a bit of trouble..But maybe it HAD to be a tow truck?
@Sinvare
@Sinvare 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sara-L It seems like it had to be a tow truck because it (the trailer) was out of service. Quoting an answer in another post Ron responded to "Because the trailer is deemed "unroadworthy" (think wrecked) by the DOT a cracked sub frame makes it OOS Out Of Service. Only a tow truck can haul it off to be repaired." Ron responded @Jerry Kinnin Exactly...thank you for the description to help clarify. God bless.
