- To be honest, when I saw this, I thought that the woman, who was supposedly a patient in this institution, was hallucinating the glass of water, and that there wasn't one actually there, because from her viewpoint, you see the glass, but when you are watching her drink from supposedly someone elses viewpoint, there is no glass, so, yeah I suppose it could be interpreted a few ways, my impression was that she was hallucinating a glass that wasn't there, and he observed her drinking from an empty hand.

@@CrispyChips007 - Ahh, but you have to wonder... are they really all laughing, or is his mind continuing to slip? @@CrispyChips007 - While potentially possible, one has to ask the question, even if they were all told to act and portray certain roles for this experiment, it does seem a little odd and senseless for them to pretend to have a glass of water when there wasn't one, I mean, they still could have played all their roles and acted accordingly, while just drinking water from a real glass, that part seems a little bit of an odd choice, I certainly wouldn't be like "We are trying to slowly dig him out of his delusion, bring him back to reality, so, while he is interviewing you, make sure to pretend to drink out of an invisible glass as if there was one there - that should help him regain a grasp of reality and break out of his delusions" - see.. One of the greatest twist endings ever and is so rewarding on the second watch because you're able to catch all the little signs that something isnt quite right. Also the ending is so crazy to me. He didn't circle back to the routine of thinking he's a detective who needs to "get to the mainland". He's well aware and would rather die being in control, than to lose himself again.

No. He's wrong for killing his wife, BUT he could "get away with it", if you will, by stating that his wife killed them. The proof is there. No lobotomy, no torture will get him out of this one if he decides to say "it's his fault". That's the true plot, either you sacrifice everything, again, or die a hero... in a way...

@CopiousDoinksLLC
@CopiousDoinksLLC Жыл бұрын
It gets even worse if you understand how psychology works - it's entirely likely that the only reason Andrew killed his wife in the first place was because he was experiencing an episode of PTSD brought on from his time in the war. When the US soldiers discovered the bodies of those Jewish people in Germany, they were so traumatized that they snapped and reverted to their military training, which conditioned them to shoot the enemy. When Andrew discovered his children's dead bodies, the similarity to those Jewish bodies immediately made him start "replaying" his experience from WW2 (notice Andrew's thousand-yard-stare before he shoots his wife). He simply killed her out of reflex because the emotional side of his brain had been so strongly imprinted with that memory of his time in WW2 and it was in full control of his actions at that point.

When Leonardo realizes his children are dead in the lake is so heart-wrenching. His yelp is so primal like a wild banshee is so intense. That is beyond acting. The cabin by the pond where the tragedy of the climax took place was filmed at Borderland State Park in Massachusetts. I've been in that cabin many times. My wife's family helped build that cabin back in the day. It's just an empty shell with a fireplace for campers and bikers to get out of the rain, but they did a nice job dressing it up for the movie to make it look like someone actually lived there.

Whoever recommended Shutter Island knows his stuff. Shutter Island is a great movie! That last line is what the film is about, as they (the writers), made you experience his delusional state where he creates his own plot to cover up his own trauma and "live" as a good man, as well understand the wrongness of what he has done by killing his own sick wife, nonetheless a human being, and having to live with horror of knowing the person he loved killed his kids. So, "Would you rather live as a monster or die as a good man?" Great reaction, you always get me to laugh at the most random shit, and great perception skills from Anna, you too Ash. Symbolisms!!

So happy that you guys did this. It's one of the best underrated psycho-thrillers. Hannah is SO on point with finding that Chuck is the Dr. And Teddy is a patient. Great job you guys.

- To be honest, I am glad I don't have the mind she does; I'm fairly intelligent, but having everything revealed at the end was mind-bendingly awesome, this movies truly took me through the wringer. If I had been like Hannah, I wouldn't have had nearly as good of a reaction, I would have basically spoiled the ending for myself figuring it out too soon.

The thing I like about the ending is that you can interpret it two ways because maybe he has regressed & that line at the end is just idle conversation. Total Recall has a similar ending. They're the kind of movies that you wanna discuss with someone right after you leave the theater

I’m a new subscriber and have been catching up on your reactions for about a week now, and I have to say this is my favourite so far. It was so much fun watching you theorise, debate and work out parts of the mystery. I’m especially impressed with Hannah for working so much out. She did much better than me or any one else I know. She’s like Sherlock Holmes - Hannah Holmes. You two should definitely do more mystery films. 😃

Such an amazing film. In particular the dream sequences are phenomenal. Leo clearly knows how to pick a role. Also Ben Kingsley is always a win.

I'm so happy you guys reacted to that! I was recommending this movie a lot. Hannah actually nailed it. You both were so much invested to the movie, it was a pleasure to watch! The best Leo's role ever in my opinion. Finest Scorsese movie too. If you ever run out of movies, I would recommend Bladerunner (final cut) and Bladerunner 2049, both are amazing and got this detective vibe too.

First reaction I've seen for this movie with someone who really understand so much. Hannah, you're the first one who have noticed that the glass of water missed. It's because Andrew / Teddie was affraid and sick with water so he didn't see the glass. And you realized so early that he was patient 67, bravo. You are both right about the last sentence. I'm convinced that he knew. And that is THE big difference with the original Book. At the end of the nouvel, he didn't say those words so we can presume he has reset. In the movie, I think he made his choice. Thank you for your great reaction from France.

This was a fantastic reaction video!! You guys should do more "who done its" It was so fun watching you constantly guess what was going on. I recommend "Gothika" its a movie that takes place in a women's asylum for criminal insane and there is a mystery and twists and turns. Also "What Lies Beneath" another good edge of your seat, mysterious movie.
