Tarantino worked in a video rental store that played movies on TVs in the shop. He often caught films half way through, so watched them without context, then watched the beginning afterwards. This inspired him to compose this script in the jumbled order to reproduce the experience he felt watching scenes from other films while working.

Absolutely! I couldn't agree more. It's very refreshing and lets the narrative flow. Tarantino never dumbs down, thankfully. Gold bullion, rôle play cop, big Wallace going out for breakfast leaving just Vince at the flat, Marvin inside guy, agreed time to open door so caught cold with no guns (I'm just popping out to get some cigarettes or something), college boys less suspicious of transporting gold bars for Wallace but secretly have his own Marvin security etc. Also, isn't it obvious that the face of anyone who opens the case lights up with the reflective yellow?

If you want to find a next level of depth to this movie, consider Jules' three interpretations of the Bible verse at the end. The first describes who he probably was at the beginning of his career. He thought of himself as a righteous gunslinger. He was playing out a fantasy. The second describes who he had become leading up to the events in the apartment.
