Awesome. How about a white balancing video for when you have to readjust for different locations during a wedding shoot like moving from the outside to indoors? How can you do it on the fly? Should you just use awb and fix in post?

This was excellent. Probably the best I’ve watched for trying to understand and remind myself about how this works. So good to know that after 60FPS and 120 shutter speed that it hardly matters if I go higher.

Thanks Matt! All I knew was to shoot at a shutter speed that is around double the frame rate. I didn't had an ND so I made the apertures go upto f/8 or f/11 to compensate for the over exposure during daylight. Thanks for letting me know that I could use faster shutter speeds than double the frame rate. Now I could shoot using a shallower depth of field at daylight. Cheers!

Right now I’m also doing double shutter to frame rate. But my video doesn’t look sharp enough. I used a flat profile and ND filter same results. Did using higher shutter speeds improve something like this ?

I know this video is 3 years old, but it'd be worth mentioning how some shutter speeds interfere with background lights creating a flicker. For instance if I'm filming at 1/60 the light flickers, but when I change it to 1/50 this stops.
@JohnPauloFilms
@JohnPauloFilms 5 жыл бұрын
Nice vid, Matt. The general rule of thumb is nice to follow, but it ultimately comes down to what you're filming. If you're filming intense, action scenes, 24 fps with a shutter over 1/100 is probably more appropriate. But if you're filming something dreamy and whimsical, perhaps a lower shutter speed for some motion blur is necessary. Now if we're talking about weddings, definitely worth trying different settings and combos for the same scene and see which version better fits the overall edit.
@treasuredmoments5207
@treasuredmoments5207 2 жыл бұрын
Can I use 1/100 for my 24 fps video? I'll be shooting a fashion video with lots of movements. I think 1/50 fps is not enough. Will I still be able to shoot it good? I mean 1/100 of a second is almost 1 stop from 1/60th standard.

Thank you Thank you Thank you! With your pro tip the footage on my GoPro is much improved. I really didn't think there would be much to any adjustments available with the GoPro being a fixed lens but after a few adjustments the overall footage looks truer to the eye. Plus trying to film outdoor power equipment with my bulky Canon M50 I was about to give up on my GoPro. Thanks for your time.

Hey Matt. I just want to thank you for all your lessons here, on youtube. I had no experience in wedding filmmaking, but right around march, a friend of mine asked me if I could shoot is wedding. I, a little anxiously said yes. So i started watching your videos to absorb the maximum amount of information that i could. The day came, and i shot the wedding. Then, it came the editing part. Although flawed as it is, the couple loved it and they said that I surpassed their expectations. I'm so happy right now, but, if it wasn't for your tutorials and explanations of everything, i wouldn't achieve this result. So, thank you so very much! Cheers from Portugal. ;)

I liked this... I was thinking I knew all this already, but I wanted to see your way of explaining it. But yeah, I will admit I never thought about faster shutter speed than a certain threshold "not making a difference", and therefore being able to act as a pseudo-ND filter for higher frame rates. Okay, I did learn something. Very useful video, and I love videos with no fluff. I don't care about the length as long as you keep giving new info presented smartly.
