The needle rod of your sewing machine is is going crooked and is not going straight down; it is moving slightly tilted backwards due to which it is touching the back side of the needle plate. I think the boosh of needle bar is worn out towards the back side due to which this problem is occurring.

@@tandav_industries there is no bush. The bracket is fixed directly to body in 2 slots with a screw on top. Neither bracket nor bar is loose / shaking. Do you have a video on how to check this or remove this or any similar assembly to check for alignment? The machine has not been heavily used for parts to wear out. I've only done simple repair works and plain cotton clothes.

Yes you can buy and replace. Yes, different needle rods are available according to different types and quality of machines. If you are calm minded and have interest in learning and doing something new then you can replace it at home.Because there are some people who have less attention, they get bored and flustered very quickly and are unable to do any work properly. Patience and concentration are required to do any work. I am sorry that I gave such a long lecture and philosophy on such a small question of yours.
