If I had to start a chain after my first ring could I use a magic loop in that first ring? Or could I just tat (using this method you show here) the chain's tail on the last few ring stitches(except the last half stitch), I'd just place my tail thread facing the opposite direction (the end facing left and not right), does that seem right?

How would you do this when adding a chain after that first ring, or any other time you have to add in thread that creates a tail? I'm assuming it is the same but I can't seem to visualize it in my head
