@@kevinhoodless7382 not true. There’s a difference between forced and unforced errors. You could play a set against anyone and hit no shots out or in the net but if you’re opponent keeps hitting winners you still lose. Think the guy is talking about unforced errors when LZJ is in a non pressure position he makes a few too many errors. Compared to others like Axelsen who hit a lot less errors

Actually LZJ is a very good all around player. He has great speed for his height. Not the fastest but fast enough to match most players. He has good height. Probably one of the tallest in the sport so now. He has good defence and has probably the best offence in game right now. The only downside is his experience and mentality
@mbtobserver2016

Agreed. However what he showed (for everybody to see) in the recent Sudirman Cup was, his unshaken "I'm not going to lose to you" mentality (I felt sorry though, for Ginting being on the receiving end .. he's such a good player)(and Mamota, despite being described by pundits as "at his best" or "nearing his previous performances" ~ he was up-ended in two, albeit, close sets)

true. People are having too much expectation on him but they forgotten he's just on the rise. Need to gain more experience from tournaments and reach master lvl...srsly can't brain why everyone is mocking him. Don't expect the next LCW will just come out all of a sudden. He's taking so much stress coz there's no one in MAS that can carry on lcw's legacy 🙃

No he is not the next LCW... He is the 1st Lee Zii Jia and should remain that way. LCW was a great player but he has closed his book, and we thank him for that and will always be remembered. Yeah no reason to compare him to LCW. LCW is good because of his consistency and solid fundamentals. Should compare him to Lin Dan because of his explosiveness and quirky shots. Also, there's nothing wrong with comparisons, stop trying to be edgy. It's human nature to compare, that's how we identify patterns.

His hunched-back smash is quite powerful. This technique allows him to generate powerful and steeper smash without using full arm swing. He uses forearm pronation to generate steeper angle and hunches his back at the last moment to add the shoulder/back-muscle power into his shots. This also enables him to carry out the full smash in faster time. His arms follow-through is also short and his racket doesn't crosses the body in his follow-through movement, unlike the other players where the racket crosses the body and the person has to land 180degrees rotated after the smash. Although it is unconventional and hard, but it is also very effective and very fast smash with a very fast recovery time.

As Indonesian BL, It's hard to say Malaysia has a strong contender in MS disipline nowdays. LZJ is the brightest future top Players and compete againts top 5, he has complete touch and technique to playing in the highest level so maybe he could finish what LCW couldn't do like winning WC, AG or OG. He's mentality and hunger to winning so good. So, can we bring back coach Hendrawan from Malaysia ?? (just kidding). I think What we Called the next 4 Kings of MS in Badminton are Anders Antonsen, Lee Zi Jia, Shi Yu Qi and of course Anthony S Ginting. They have same age and era, determine, complete in touch and shoot, also has winning an World Tour Super 1000 Tournament. These 4 Players have a chance to winning OG until Olympic 2032 in Auckland. very astute observations and excellent example footage from your research. some of these things like the pirouette backhand smash may work well for him, and others may not work as well for him. for example, if you study his jump smash you see the he is not rotating his hips, so he needs to use an abdominal crunch to generate power. this leaves his feet in a slightly awkward position for singles (though maybe ok for doubles). he may be able to manage that now but this idiosyncracy may not age well

I think those shots if taken as smashes will be straining to right side of body. Pay attention the shuttle is on top left corner, not overhead. Converting it into a backhand smash like what Lzj does here could actually be faster, less strain and achieve better angle than forcing an overhead smash.

Most of these "skills" are actually just LZJ improvising for his height lol, the crazy defense while being pushed back is him losing balance when squating because of his height. The hunched smash is him generating more power for his smash because taller athletes are less compact/explosive than shorter athletes.

He played yesterday only against momota in Sudirman cup and Lee Zia Jia lost .The game which Lee Zia Jia had in all England and now is totally different so he had to practice a lot .

Is hard to beat momota as he has regain his old form he plays a control playstyle and his defense is very good. If lzj uses his all england form i dont think it will work well for him and a lot of energy wasted. He need to play how lee chong wei play against him using his own technique and also pressure him propably lin dan attacking style should be able to overcome his technique.

His jump net kill is actually illegal in BWF competitions or most professional meets. Your racket cannot go over the net, no matter how little or how quick. But it seems that the officials in the clips have turned a blind eye to his antics and have let it slide multiple times.

Is there a biomechanical advantage to the hunch or is it just his personal style? It looks a little like the Sampras serve.
