What about pandemic pandemic? Where you have to race around the world stopping players from playing pandemic variants? That will truly be the height of board gaming.
@prawnchips94613 жыл бұрын
You're a group of indie board game developers that just release their debut game that took you 50 years to make. But unfortunately, you release it on the same day the new pandemic variant came out and everybody is playing it. Your job is go to different conventions and board game shop around the world treating pandemic game fever, establish your own board game convention, and promote your game in 5 conventions of the same color/region to put your board game as GOTY in that region.

I played the Dispatcher in Season 1, and my friends and I joked that I was "the guy in the chair" and I got so very attached to my character (whom I named Jason). He ended up dying in a very dramatic fashion, and I was more upset by this than by the death of some of my D&D characters. That emotion was something that made Season 1 so amazing for me. I actually got a little frame and framed my character card and its on my board game shelf.

After the first twist in Season one i decided that this problem needed a military solution and fast. So as soon as the colonel became available I grabbed him told my partner "I got this" and almost killed him in one game. *Spoilers* in my head I even named it the battle of Instanbul because after a catastrophic attempt of trying to save the City I got my second scar and decided to just forefit the game. Thats why the Quarantine specialist was the only military character we ever used.

*Big spoilers*, but my Dispatcher, Imada Hitoshi, was one of our favorite characters in the group, absolute MVP. We gave him Veteran and Paramilitary Escort so he could go hoovering up [redacted], but of course that made it so when the time came for the big twist, he and his brother-in-law Nate Beardsley (our soldier) were searching through a falling Algiers for the paranoid soldier, and of course Hitoshi was revealed to be [redacted]. We loved Season 0 and the whole Pandemic Legacy series. I think it's because we didn't really get into Pandemic until Legacy 1 was released, and with the exception of the 1st expansion, never played any of the other variants. So when we tired of Pandemic we had to wait for another legacy to be released. Each one seemed new and fresh and oddly, for us, we prefer them in reverse order. We think 0 is the best balance of tried and true + bold and new, 2 was really experimental (and oddly gorgeous) and 1 was what first got us hooked. Each of them felt unique, and never felt to us like we were just doing the same thing over and over again.
@Hippohydra2 жыл бұрын
It's nice to come across someone else who prefers 2 > 1> 0. We played them in reverse order too (because season 2 was the only one available when we wanted to try out a legacy game) and it was so much more open and immersive to us than the others. We developed a narrative as we played through and got really invested in that story and the characters in it. 1 felt more like base Pandemic but had significant consequences when things went sideways. 0 was of a less interesting theme for us and the consequences also seemed lower. In the end it was a slog to finish and I was relieved that it was done.

Pandemic Iberia is in the mid 19th century, 50+ years before the 1918 flu pandemic (which also didn’t actually originate in Spain). It’s still a quite nice (and pretty!) variant of the original pandemic with new restrictions: no cures (because antibiotics weren’t discovered yet), no eradication, no insta-travel by planes. But also new tools like regional water pumps that prevent disease cubes, travel by boat and building railroads like Ticket to Ride. I actually got it cheaper than OG Pandemic and recommend it if you like the vintage theme.

Hey Quinn would you mind releasing a review with spoilers (and for future legacy reviews to)? I personally am very hesitant to buy a legacy game due to the seeming lack of replay ability. I would like to see an uncensored version so I can judge the game in a different light. Also if I understand legacy mechanics its unlikely someone else would end up with the same event as you, and even if they did they would still not expect it. I feel uncensoring yourself would allow me to get a better view of what legacy games offer and by making two videos those who don't want spoilers can just watch the other video.

Season 1 works the way it does because players already know how to play Pandemic. Usually intimately. Game 1 starts out as just regular Pandemic, but with the threat that even the slightest error will permanently damage the game board. And you KNOW what that means, down in your bones, because you understand how Pandemic works on an intuitive level. You *feel* the consequences, not because of the game's theme, but because of your familiarity with the system. In Season 2, that's not the case. If you damage something on the board, well, who knows, right? This is all new territory. In Season 2 you could face a consequence twice as bad as the usual harms of season 1, in terms of degrading your ability to win future games. But you don't KNOW that on a deep level. It's speculative at best.

@@stumbling bro you aren't just fighting the Soviets in russia, you're fighting "them" across the world. Considering the history of the CIA where they overthrew homegrown socialist movements (very often capitalist democracies as well!) and replaced them with brutal tyrannical dictatorships that destroyed the freedom and economic dependence of these countries even today. Just look at what they did to Latin America with the paramilitary death squads. Anyways Russia did end poorly but that's because it was a resource starved nation that was up against giant capitalist superpowers that desperately DO NOT WANT alternatives to capitalism to succeed. So Russia started off decently. They overthrew the garbage aristocracy that enforced a garbage class divide so bad that most parts of the country were still in feudal era serfdoms, then developed the country so quickly it'll go down in history as the second fastest rise to industrialisation, second only to China iirc. (Wow I wonder if 3rd world countries could use some of that communist growth nah let's just wait for capitalism to do it for them any day now) Anyways they nailed the landing now they had to pull through the follow up which involved them collaborating with other socialist economies, which in this case was Rosa Luxemburg's socialist party in Germany. Well they got killed when they were sold out by the German socdems who wanted a fun mixed economy (womp womp) and so the communist party were fuuuuuucked as they were alone in the world against capitalist megapowers. So they instead doubled down in a centrally planned government and sabotaged anarchist based organisations which turned out to be a REALLY BAD IDEA since Stalin killed pretty much all of Lenin's successors in a coup which made Russia kind of garbage. Kind of. What made the communist nation good was guaranteed food, housing and medicine and guaranteed employment too, even if the job was nonsense they'd give you something to do. What made it garbage was just stuff analogue to a capitalist country. You couldn't criticise the government in the same way you can't criticise conservative values. There is a favoured upper class of the centrally planned communist party much like there is the upper class in capitalism. Your free speech is limited with threats of state violence and arrest, which well, look at America or Hong Kong or France or basically anywhere else in the world. In fact what made Stalin's regime and the latter half of the Soviets so bad is that they began to dissolve their communist pricipals in favour of capitalism. So yes we haven't had "true communism" in the sense that we never had the opportunity in the first place. If the socdems never sold out the socialist party in Germany... Or the CIA lead coups against socialist uprisings across the globe and installed brutal military dictatorships we might be looking at a very different world. A world which doesn't favour profits over human life and is thus better prepared to deal with a pandemic. Which is a little too on the nose given today's events and why a prequel to a series of games where a pandemic ravages a world based on ours so badly it causes a post apocalypse in the sequel and where the prequel involves you defeating "the Soviets" across the globe which inevitably results in the timeline of the first game... is kind of a sore spot for alot of people atm.

@@DragoonBoom it’s not wanting alternatives to succeed, you’ve been brainwashed, it’s preventing the world from falling under a brutal dictatorship from over taking the world, aka the USSR.

Are you guys ever going to review Forbidden Island/Desert/Sky? I love how Forbidden Island streamlines the Pandemic gameplay.

How is the infection game from the phone game of the same name? Is it any good?

Genuine and hopefully non-judgemental question - how did you guys manage (assuming you did) to play this socially-distanced and presumably indoors? I'm keen to get my board-game group together, but it seems really logistically challenging?

On the podcast he mentioned he played it with his wife, which has been what I’ve been doing myself. It is quite hard to get a solid group together though, so I feel for you!

John Glass Thanks John, that’s good to know and actually a bit of a relief that there isn’t a ready-made option for group play! We’re hoping to play some Skull in a park today, our first group get -together since early March! Take care of yourself.

Have you played “This war of mine”? Seems like it pushes a lot of the grim buttons you talked about.

Quinns infects many with interest in games they didn't know they wanted. Even when Quinns isn't trying to, it happens. Thanks Quinns for discussing the Century series. The Golem edition as a trilogy is arguably my favorite game now. That is based off just mixing the first two of the nonGolem edition. The third is worker placement. And now, due to that review, I want to mix Isle of Skye with Carcassonne. Forget patient 0, Quinns is reviewer 0.

Hello, I don't want to watch this video yet in case of spoilers, but I do have a question: Should we play the games in numerical order (0, 1, then 2), or in publication order (1, 2, then 0)? Thanks!
@johnheidal58924 жыл бұрын
It looks like you can play 0 or 1 first, I think 2 has some mild spoilers for 1.
@Ditocoaf4 жыл бұрын
If you're certain you want to play all three, probably play 1 first or it'll be a letdown after 0 raises your expectations with stuff meant to impress people who'd already played 1.
