My mother in law used to love this song. Seeing it played so beautifully literally brought me to tears. Missing you ma!

Buddy, this demo just brought me to tears. You took me all the way back to a special time and place in my life when I was able to sit in my beautiful own home and learn this song note for note (I see I had some things wrong too) over and over - that was a moment of peace for me. Sadly not too long after that year I sustained a brain injury in a horror life story I won't bore you with here and I lost all my guitar skill. And I lost wll my properties and everything I worked for too. So I had to start again. Your videos are helping me. Thank you. I will study your lessons on this. It will take me a long time as my brain now takes extra time to absorb things now these days. I've never found a good tutorial on this song before now. Also, two of my dearest friends were famous guitarists who have played with Carlos Santana himself - one died a couple of months ago and the other just died last weekend - both played Samba Pa Ti to perfection. So I'm feeling quite heartbroken watching this demo right now. You nailed it. All the best from Australia. :-)

I so much appreciate your tutorials, since I'm old guy who grew up with Santana, thank you for your comments because I feel Carlos is having a conversation with his listeners when he is playing his guitar. He always surrounds himself with musicians and singers who do the same.

I’ve pretty much been learning and learning this guitar tune for months and months and I’ve got every note down. I still need to polish it up and develop my speed. My pinky doesn’t want to work sometimes so I mostly use three fingers so I struggle a bit to reach certain notes, but I’ve learned all of it. I practice every morning for about an hour until my hand gets numb. One day I’ll post on KZbin, but not yet. I love the tutorials for part 1 and 2 of this song.

I bought his album when it came out and took my telecaster and a pad of paper and wrote down 2-3 notes at a time, pulling the needle off the lp and doing that over and over until I had about 1/2 of this song. Seeing what you are doing, I started in the wrong place as my first note was on the A string 12th fret. Whereas I had many people impressed with what I had I am blown away with your dissecting of this song.I have watched many a youtube persons version. These notes are burned in my mind. You do a flawless version. Thank you... but now I know just how bad I have been all these years. LOL Thanks

This is the most authentic version of the original as played by Santana on the 1970 Abraxas album, that I have heard. It is also very close in tonality to the original. Santana improvises quite liberally in his live performances and so long as his band keep up with the beat and timing, he literally does as he likes. Great job. This might even inspire me to try and forget the arthritis in my fingers and give guitar playing another go.

I have never seen or heard on all of carlos performing this great song live that compares to your feel and accuracy. I dont know whether carlos is off into improvisation kaleidoscope or he's simply can't duplicate his own legendary creation. But you sir have faithfully restored this classic and I am in awe and appreciation for your incredible ear.... only performance of this song done correctly I can find in 2019!
@robertgodhard32482 жыл бұрын
Santana,as you know has performed this piece thousands of times,and is responsible for bringing this traditional Mexican folk song into popularity world wide. When I hear a band perform,I am excited to hear the songs played that we like very much,but don't want to hear them as they were in the studio.We have records for that at home. We all change through time,and these songs change also,the artists grow and the music becomes a living, changing entity. Seen the group many times,allways enjoying the variations,and yes the improvisation of this and the rest of there songs. Very much like this lesson and demonstration of a seemingly simple,yet complex piece!
@zweecam2 жыл бұрын
Mr godhand, your comment is well taken and articulated. I remember years ago this subjective debate. If you want to hear the studio version then just play the record right? Playing live offers the privilege of the artist giving us something new, innovative and possibly superior....? Maybe...my preference is, play what we expect first, as we anticipate, a human response that is visceral, then go crazy with new offerings.... the problem is, in my opinion, samba pati on the record is so mt. Rushmore, that carlos' improvisation don't measure up, just an opinion....

@toddknaster97314 жыл бұрын
I know you said the song is in the Key of G major. Are you playing in A Dorian or G major for the main opening melody? I understand both share the same notes, but I always try to understand where the notes come from as it helps me visualize and learn better. I am only asking this question for knowledge as I am trying to wrap my brain around the concept of modes, so please don’t take my question as anything other than curiosity. Your lessons and playing are always excellent and much appreciated.

This is the song I've been looking for since 1977 or 78. I was working as a cowboy on the Gang Ranch a huge but remote cattle ranch as a cowboy and I was with my boss in his pickup driving around some cattle for some reason when this song came on the radio. I sat there silently listening to this while he was driving. I knew it was Santana but I never heard the name of the song announced by the DJ. I said to myself I will remember this song and look it up when I get a chance. For years I wasn't sure which song it was that I heard. Was it Transcendence? Was it Moon Flower...Europa? ....I was never sure...until today when I watched your video. I never would have guessed it had a name like "Samba Pa Ti". ... Yup...this is the song.
