Real shit when I worked behind a desk with the public at a service station usually alone so I was the boss. I kept a "manager hat" under the counter. Whenever I'd get an unpleasant customer who asked to speak to my manager or shift supervisor I'd do the stairs thing behind the desk, stomps walking down, out of sight conversation and all like, Me (worker)- "Hey there's a *expletive* upstairs giving me a hard time, they wanna talk to you." Me (manager)- "I told you not to disturb me during paperwork. Always with these customers!" *Comes up on the stairs with hat on* Or sometimes I'd do the elevator/escalator bit.
