How Many Dodges Does It Take to Beat Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story? (No Dodge Challenge)

The Mario & Luigi RPG series stands out from other turn-based RPGs by letting the playable characters dodge and block enemy attacks with the right timing, avoiding all damage. However, what if we tried to play through Bowser's Inside Story closer to a traditional RPG? Yeah, Luigi earns less experience so why not, every time I play a M&L game I go and fight weak enemies, let Mario die, and then let Luigi finish them off. I do that until Luigi is 5 levels ahead of mario, progress through the game, go and fight stronger enemies until Luigi is 5 levels ahead, progress through the game, repeat.

The thing I loved most about BiS was how challenging and long it was, nothing will ever top it, the giant boss battles were amazing when first introduced (they are still great in dream team). But I think I loved it most due to the fact you can be bowser in a M&L game, and they even bring back fawful, (and yes, Ik about his cameo in partners in time).

(This comment is a W.I.P) It's simple. You don't kill, you supply enough pressure to explode something into yellow and blue stars, assuming you have enough strength to deliver enough pressure, you will most likely be successful. The enemies also teleport and switch places with something that explodes into yellow and blue stars. There is also the possibility that the Bros can travel back in time, because usually you cant re-fight a boss that has the same stats. Most likely the same with the X bosses, which provides that theory. See? Simple.

BIS was my first M&L game and is still one of my favorite games ever. Played the original so many times and made so many No Damage runs, that I tried a challenge in the remake. Man, I remember this fight as a kid. I had so many issues beating this game and it felt so much more difficult back then. The first boss that gave me real issues was bowser, I just couldn't deal enough damage or dodge enough attacks to do it, then one day on vacation I brute forced my way through it. When I got to dark bowser, I couldn't spam hard enough to get Fawful every time, and when I did it was just an uphill battle from there. God, good times.

I loved this game as a kid. The humour and everything, and just the right amount of difficulty IMO. This video brings back fond memories of playing it. I recall struggling the most on: 1. digesting the carrot; 2. the first fight against the blue and pink worm after the carrot; 3. the Fawful Express; 4. Blizzard Midbus; and 5. trying to suck up Fawful in the Dark Bowser fight. That one specific moment in the fight was where I kept getting screwed over because most of the time I wasn't able to get him in time. After beating the game, I made a new save file to start over again, but I was never able to beat the Fawful Express a second time. The only boss from this video that I had no recollection of was the giant Peach's Castle fight. I don't remember even doing that one.

In the event you decide to do Dream Team (up to you), that challenge will be pathetically easy (a side from the giant battles) because of two things. *Please take note that I haven't played the game in a while, so I don't remember the names of the badges or gear used.* First off, there's a piece of equipment both bros can equip that negates damage up to a certain amount of times. I THINK it's six times, but I could be thinking of the badges. Speaking of, the other thing is that a certain badge combination (I THINK it's the guard badge + master badge) has the same effect: it creates a barrier around both bros that negates damage six times. Or, if you prefer, there's another badge combination effectively stops time and lets you beat the foe before they can even move. (Watched someone pull that on the final boss.) Buuuut, using these will make the challenge incredibly boring. Plus, they don't work on giant battles. But, it's an option if you want it.

FinalHunter Oh I forgot about him. He pulls the Shrowser treatment and forces you to only fight with counterattacks. So it isn't just giant battles that screw with the challenge.

Very interesting and well made videos, the only addition you could do is a little final graphic with all boss and the ammount of dodge to get a nice visualization of all dodges. Keep up the good work man !

When I played the original for the first time, I had such a hard time beating the Durmite, so I gave up. Years later I replayed it and beat the whole game with less difficulty than before. The ice midbus fight took me forever to beat, since I was always taken out by the giant Snowball, since I couldn't figure out where the bombombs were. I got the remake for my birthday and have slowly been increasing the progress.
