Since quite a few of you may have never heard of this project, chances are that you are wondering: "What the $@&( is a Shylmagoghnar? Can I eat it?". So let me alleviate your initial shock and confusion by answering those questions in advance: Shylmagoghnar is a word that former founding member Skirge and me (Nimblkorg) came up with during our teens. The both of us chose two syllables which we felt held a specific significance to us personally. Think of a meditative chant, or an incantation. The syllables chosen were Shyl, Nar, Ma and Gogh. We tried several combinations, but kept summoning netherforms by accident, so we ended up going with the safest option. The proper pronunciation in English is: Shyl sounds like shield, ma, gogh sounds like gog, and nar. [Shiel-ma-gog-nar]. And to answer whether you can eat it: it's been keeping me alive since 2014, so I think so?

But with Shylma I always get to a point where the music seems to have a life of its own and all I have to do is to make sure it can be captured in a fitting way. It's very dear to me.

The last thing any of us needs to be is a 2D human. I hope you always share you creations, whatever they may be!

I’ve been waiting for this song for quite some time. Shylmagoghnar has been my favorite art since I discovered it at the time of a major turning point in my life. Transience and emergence both were the catalyst for change within myself, lowering my drawbridge to be able to accept certain aspects of reality and my psyche. Convergence will be the healing between reality and my mental state, I know it. This song already has given me so much clarity and healing, thank you again Nim. I am 100% with you on that, and really grateful that the overwhelming amount of people listening to this project feel that way. Whenever I'm working on Shylma, months pass by like days, and even after 3 albums, I cannot imagine getting the same results in significantly less time. I'm not sure I can name another band whose music carries the same feeling of immensity and provokes the same awe in me, so it's good to hear there's more of that coming! :D Speaking of which, I did pick up on a lot of similarities to The Dawn of Motion in this track, particularly the section around 2:56 - I can't help but wonder if there's an intentional parallel there, with DoM representing an infinite number of possibilities being born from a single point as the universe is created, and this song being the opposite, as "the rivers converge on one point" in death. Am I onto something there, or am I just being an English Literature student? :P

Transience in general was about finding one's place in the seemingly infinitely branching cosmos around us - both on the macro scale and on the micro scale. For this album, the journey leaves the physical realm of time and space, as from the perspective of the observer, the universe starts and ends with their own existence. Once this is about to take place, the protagonist of the album feels a strong instinctive urge, which allows him to travel the branching paths in reverse ("wander the path, overcome in times and times before. I long back to flow with its waters so cold"). The final bit also alludes to the grand vastness of it all possibly having been nothing more than an illusion, created by a single fluctuation being stretched beyond recognition in time. "An aria which came forth from a dream echoes in this labyrinth surreal". An aria is sung by a solo voice. "When stretched in time, a single voice may seem like the myriad of ghost notes heard within the whir of a river". Complexity coming from a single point. So yes, you are getting it right! What this single point is is left completely to the listener, as I think that's an existential question everyone needs to explore on their own. If you enjoy dissecting music and lyrics this way, I definitely think you'll have your work cut out for you with Convergence. One of the benefits of this album being a solo effort was that I was able to fully connect all songs and lyrics to each other, and to previous albums as well. There's a reason this stuff always takes years - I love putting stuff like that in there for those who are willing to look for it ;) Here's a bonus: the first sentence of this song is the first line spoken on the album. It is a continuation of the last line spoken on the previous album. "...and as I die I see the veil lifted by the sun. As the day becomes the night, ..." etc. It's a transformation from the veiled known into the unveiled unknown. I imagine that must be a terrifying shift...

Summoning for example was one of the bands that gave me hope early on that musicians can still reach a respectable audience by simply being good at what they do on their own terms. Same goes for Darkthrone. While I've never been a fan of their work, they've certainly made their mark. Plus, Fenriz managed to get elected with a picture of a cat. Now that's fucking metal!

Thank you! Yes, the band seems to have been coasting in that weird space where it's neither underground nor very well known. It's a blessing in disguise, cause with new releases like these there's always a good chance to reach new people who then get to listen to a couple of albums at once, instead of having to wait for years for more. I've heard the comparison to Amorphis many times before by the way, and I'm ashamed to say that to this day I have still never listened to them. I probably really should...

Been listening to metal for 30 years and extreme side of metal for 10 plus years and stumbled across this. And wow. I had to stop working and hear this track. Impressive. Will have to buy this upcoming album on vinyl only after hearing one song from this band

I'm glad to hear that the music is still able to draw the ear of someone who's been around longer than I have (I think it've been listening to and playing metal for 22ish years now). And any sold copy certainly helps with making the project possible for me to continue, thank you! Since you're a collector, I'll mention it just in case: the previous two albums had a vinyl reprint very recently after being sold out for years. They are available on the same webshop of my label Napalm Records. So if you would happen to listen to those albums and enjoy them as well, be aware that the vinyl for them might not be around forever. I realize how much that sounds like a fear-of-missing-out speech, but let's just say I had to answer way too many sad emails about that in the past couple of years!
