Good news everyone! Shylmagoghnar's third album, CONVERGENCE, is planned to be released on the 10th of november this year, and we're kicking off the pre-orders today with a new music video (and more to follow during the lead-up to the release). You can watch the video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGjZg59nm9ede9U And pre-orders (CD, Vinyl, Digital and T-shirts) can be found in this link: lnk.to/SHYLMAGOGHNAR-Convergence This album is my most personal one to date, so I'm hoping you will love it! Hey guys! Since a few of you have been wondering, I wanted to let you know that Shylma is still very much alive and kicking. I've been withdrawn from social media for a while now, but that's just because I tend to go into full recluse mode when working on new stuff. In other words, no news is usually good news. As you probably know by now, we take our time with albums until we feel they are truly radiating the atmosphere we had in mind, so future instalments will be no different. With that said, I'm very eager to keep going with the project! Thank you all once again for making it worth our while. As for our Bandcamp shop: I had to close down the physical side for the time being, due to local/international corona measures making shipping too uncertain (or in the case of some countries, impossible). I'm just a guy selling CDs and T-shirts from my home, so I don't really have the means to be able to ship guaranteed tracked packages for low prices like big companies do. Once this situation passes, I will be back at it again though! I wish you all the best and stay safe, Nimblkorg - Shylmagoghnar

@Ravciozo Haha thanks man, what can I say, to me it is still that passion project that my friend and I have hammered together in my toolshed, so I am mostly just amazed that people inside and outside of the genre have welcomed it so kindly! It makes me feel things I cannot put into words. Let's hope it will inspire future musicians and the likes to not be afraid to self-produce their work, even if their situation in life is far from perfect. Time will tell! @Heidevolk le Gueux I'm sorry to say we are not a live project! Shylmagoghnar in its current form exists because I suffer from chronic mental illness which makes it very hard to leave my house or talk to anyone for more than an hour or so at a time. That's why everything we make is produced from my home.

I don't know if it's just me, or other people also feel the same; your music has that "essence", as if the guitars are weeping far away in a distant fog. It's very emotional, melodic and atmospheric. No words can describe how beautiful the music is. Thank you very much for bringing another masterpiece, and can't wait for others to come.

Thank you, I think that's a pretty good description of how I feel when writing the music as well. It isn't always the most pleasant experience (especially the distant fog thing), but I do think it's necessary to get that essence in the music you describe. i can't stop running this band Thanks for ever is absolotly amazing LIFE is my best of the best song. What is the story about this song wow
@Shylmagoghnar3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think that was the song closest to my heart while I was writing the music for the album. I sadly don't know the exact details behind it anymore, since a lot of the music for this project gets written during my manic periods and retracing those thoughts afterwards is like trying to remember a dream. But I do remember that the goal of the song was to underline that of the album, namely exploring the cyclical nature of things on all scales. It felt sensible to end the album on the scale closest to us: life and death. The song Life is exactly that: the journey of one living being from beginning to end. It starts with 1 high mono guitar, which is the female egg cell. It then becomes stereo by the addition of the deeper male cell. Then the kickdrum slowly becomes a heart beat and suddenly there is a burst of complexity. I'll leave the rest to your imagination, but I will add that the music box in the end is the "cadence frail" described in the lyrics of the previous song. As stated there, its fading means the person is about to go on their final journey - and that's where the third and last album of this trilogy will take place ;)
@schelest33163 жыл бұрын
@@Shylmagoghnar I hope it will be only the last album of the trilogy, not the last album of Shylmagoghnar? And by the way, I understand that your writing process is extremely influenced by being inspired in a certain moment, but do you have maybe any kind of assumption when it may be ready, like at least by the year? I've discovered Shylmagoghnar right before Transience released and I've been waiting all the time since. Also, thanks for your music, of course. It strikes extremely close to one part of mine that is being explored extremely rarely by any external content. I've read your comments somewhere about the state you're writing the songs in and how you are trying to retranslate these feelings of a long distanced dream, and it is very close to how I like to feel. Reality is reality and I don't have much problems with that, but being able to get lost in an abstract dream is extremely valuable. The best example is, of course, dreaming while sleeping, and sadly I more often don't get this feeling afterwards, and it's not really comparable with anything I can get in a conscious state of mind, but you manage to recreate this as close as possible, especially in some very specific sections. You're one of the very few bands that fulfill this wish of mine.

I thought I heard pretty much all there is to hear, until I found this.. This album is an absolute masterpiece. I discovered it 2 weeks ago and gave it at least 30 full listens by now. I shared it with all my metal buddies. It's like I rediscovered music from scratch. I can't find words to discribe how much I like it. It amplifies good moods and reduces bad moods. I'm sorry you had to lose your dear friend, I can only imagine how hard that must have been. I hope that by now the warm memories of your dog are the first thing that come to mind when thinking of him/her. Thank you kindly for saying this by the way, because this is exactly what the purpose of the song is to me as well. In those dark moments it may seem so cruel that all good things are eventually taken away from us, but maybe in the grander scope of things that finiteness is exactly what makes life precious. I'm not sure about this yet and I wonder how I will look back at it 10 years from now, but for the time being I'm very glad that you recognized a piece of yourself in it. All the best!

This is definitely by far my favourite album of the 2018. I was afraid this album would not be better than "Emergence" but guys... You gave me goosebumps and happiness. "Transcience" has everything I love in music: Aggression combined with calmness and some magical sound. The riffs, solo, all of the climate put on this album is just mindblowing. This is in my personal opinion one of the best albums since many years. Keep up the great work Shylmagoghnar!
@Shylmagoghnar6 жыл бұрын
That is absolutely wonderful to hear - and a big relief too. Thank you so much! With how unexpectedly positive Emergence was received, I must admit we've had our fears for this release. We had a clear vision of where we wanted to go with the music... but what if we were the only ones who wanted to go there? This project is incredibly personal to us, so we really did not want it to become the umpteenth band that lost its spark after the debut. The only thing we could do was to pour everything we had into this album, just like with Emergence, and hope that you felt what we felt once again. Words cannot describe how glad we are that this is indeed the case. I'll try to remember that when the same thought inevitably crawls up on us during the 3rd round...

It's an excellent album for sure. I had never heard of the band before this album, but in my opinion this album is definitely a huge improvement from Emergence... which is great, love the direction the band is going! @@Shylmagoghnar I discovered Hamferð by almost pure chance, only due to the 2017 N. American eclipse and a single post on a forum in which we were discussing it and someone posted a video the band did during the Faroe Islands 2015 eclipse. They performed a beautiful 'light' version of their song 'Deyðir varðar' with the eclipse taking place in the background. I'd say the album version is "heavy and deep". More "doom metal" I guess. Worth a look anyway. I was hooked and have two of their albums now.

Easily one of the best metal albums I've listened to in a long time. I was a fan of Shylma's first offering and I can't believe I hadn't heard about this album until I stumbled upon it tonight while having a few drinks. Hey! I'm terribly sorry to hear that life has been rough on you recently. I'm glad that we could at least indirectly ease the pain a bit - ultimately that's what it's about to me, so thank you for giving the music its true value. Despite not knowing your situation, I think I can relate in my own way. I've lost my mother to cancer in 2022, only a couple of months after diagnosis. I had become father not even a year earlier, which made her so incredibly happy. Alas, that happiness was not allowed to last. That took me quite some time to get to grips with, but since my mom was a huge supporter of this project, it felt natural to me to channel this grief into finishing the new album. The process gave me a lot of relief and I'm happy to say that it is now done. There is still a bunch of other stuff that needs to happen and the label needs time as well to prepare for a proper release, but... expect an announcement. In the meantime, hang in there and I believe your strength will return to you if you allow it time! All the best, Nim

@@Shylmagoghnar that means so much, thank you! That’s very exciting news! Your music means the world to me, my favorite song is No Child of Man Could Follow. I relate a lot to what you’ve shared… I won’t be specific but I too have become a father and experienced death recently. I’ve come out the other side a different person, and No Child of Man affirms that the change in my soul is worth it despite the trials it takes, and it makes me hopeful for the changes to come even if they’re hard. Just one way your music helps me. It’s so cool you responded to my comment, I must’ve written 5-6 fan letters to Dave Mustaine in middle school but didn’t even hear back once! Lol. Over a year since it released and this is still probably my favourite album of all time. A lot of my metalhead friends put me liking it so much down to the honeymoon period of finally hearing something I'd been awaiting for months and months, but after this much time I think it's safe to say this is the real deal. You two have pretty much changed my life with your music, first getting me into extreme metal with Emergence and then releasing this masterpiece. I've also started running a D&D campaign loosely based on different aspects of this album, namely the track "Journey Through the Fog". My players really enjoy it and seeing them so invested is one of few things that genuinely makes me feel fulfilled and happy, so I guess I owe you one for that as well. If I ever travel over to Holland, drinks are on me :)

It really means a lot to me to read this, thank you so kindly for saying that. I think the whole "standing the test of time" thing is definitely the most frightening part of releasing music. When you put your heart and soul into something for years, you obviously want others to feel it (and hopefully it will have positive effect on them). Like you said: many times with a new album there is this honeymoon phase where you love everything about it... but for some reason that feeling only very rarely lasts, so we tend to take longterm impressions very serious. We wish to give it our all to make every album not just a collection of music, but something which we hope is meaningful and lasting. I'm beyond glad that in your case this seems to have worked out! Crossing my fingers that we can do that again with the next one
