Hey guys! Since a few of you have been wondering, I wanted to let you know that Shylma is still very much alive and kicking. I've been withdrawn from social media for a while now, but that's just because I tend to go into full recluse mode when working on new stuff. In other words, no news is usually good news. As you probably know by now, we take our time with albums until we feel they are truly radiating the atmosphere we had in mind, so future instalments will be no different. With that said, I'm very eager to keep going with the project! Thank you all once again for making it worth our while. As for our Bandcamp shop: I had to close down the physical side for the time being, due to local/international corona measures making shipping too uncertain (or in the case of some countries, impossible). I'm just a guy selling CDs and T-shirts from my home, so I don't really have the means to be able to ship guaranteed tracked packages for low prices like big companies do. Once this situation passes, I will be back at it again though! I wish you all the best and stay safe, Nimblkorg - Shylmagoghnar

What a coincidence to see this update being 23 hours before posting this comment mate, I was looking forwards for an update from you you guys, just 2 days ago I read the interview on progwereld when I visited the facebook page of Shylmagoghnar, I want you guys to know that what you're doing is appreciated, I'am looking forward to the next album, it feels as if I have lost a decade, which I'm leaving behind, though it took roughly 3 months of the new decade. I want you guys to know that your music has been soothing to me through the last 20+ months since I've discovered you guys, I hope your legacy will be huge. Wie zou hebben gedacht dat een bandje van dit land, mij zou hebben beinvloed in de persoon die ik aan het worden ben :')

No worries though - we're taking our time to craft everything exactly the way we want it to be and I'm pleased to say that Napalm fully supports that mentality.

Mephestozygote Grix Happy to hear that! Say, didn't you write something about finding the Godhead through music a while ago? I really liked and agreed with that - I feel like the pursuit of music (or any art for that matter) resembles a monk's lifestyle, as in that you aim both your thoughts and your actions towards revering and trying to grasp something which is greater than yourself; but I could never find your comment again so I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to reply! +chunkblaster Awesome, glad to hear that! And feedback noted - I very much recognize what you are saying. I'm the guy who handles the instruments and production for us in general, which I absolutely love, but I've noticed that it is hard to keep all of it on the same level. I'm a pretty systematic guy so I don't worry about it too much for the future, but I think that on this debut it's pretty clear which facets the two of us had most experience in. So yes, synths are definitely on the list of things that I want to get more creative control over!

My big concern these days is that it actually takes me 7 years to get back to people sometimes! But yes, it's very much from the heart. The responses we've been receiving to this project put a stark contrast on how hopeless the situation in which this debut was created seemed. I'll forever associate and be greatful to this album for helping/uplifting me from my depression. First track helped process and release emotions...like a journey, in just 8 minutes...second track gave me strength to move on. Thank you!
@Shylmagoghnar3 жыл бұрын
It gives me great relief to hear that, thank you. Those first two songs were written as a form of self therapy for me as well. I wrote them in a time where I got so ill that I had to spontaneously give up on everything I had been working towards at that point, so it was more or less an act of desperation. I'm glad to say that those dark times didn't last forever. My band mate Skirge translated that shift well into words on A New Dawn. I'm glad we're not the only ones who benefited from that rocky journey. All the best to you and take good care of yourself!

Whats the problem? I'm curious as to why they wont let me see the full album (not just for this album either) but still allow the individual songs.. It's quite annoying
@Shylmagoghnar6 жыл бұрын
I agree, it's frustrating as hell. Basically what's happening is this: if a certain amount of copyrighted songs are detected in a video, it is automatically blocked by YT in some countries, and the digital distributor who protects those copyrights cannot manually unblock it (don't you just love automated systems?). For some reason, with this video it seems to only be happening in the US (at least as far as I'm aware), which is why we didn't notice it until it was already out. We're currently looking if there is a way to remove some of the copyright claims on this specific video, so it becomes unblocked. I really hope it is resolved asap, but there is sadly nothing I can do but wait right now.

Bought this off of Bandcamp little over three years ago - still one of the most requested records in the daily carpool among my non-metalhead friends (we've taken to calling it Shylly). Further, what initially drew me to this record, and I'm pretty sure I also said this in the message I sent with my purchase (which you guys were awesome enough to respond to!) is that this is exactly the kind of stuff I did/would write. The tempo changes, the variations on similar themes, THE DRUMMING (represented well by the first minute of 'Emergence' ) are so damn satisfying! Shylmagoghnar speaks to me on a primal level - love you dudes!
@Shylmagoghnar6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very kindly for that again btw - it has helped us both financially and morally to keep going with this project :) Responding to your message back then as now was the least I could do. It's always wonderful to hear when someone appreciates your music, but coming from a fellow musician it's special to me. I know how hard it can be for myself to listen to music without going into analysis-mode, so if you can hear this through that filter and still enjoy it... well, that's all we could ever hope for really. Whenever someone requests the album in the car, tell them I said hi please!

+Zephyroth Svartedøden Awesome, hearing that last thing always brightens my mood. We're very glad we could help you through a rough day! It's one of the best things we can hope for. Cool that you noticed our efforts in trying to stay in contact with our listeners btw! This album was a complete do-it-yourself dream of ours which had been lingering in our minds for years, so when it was finally finished we were relieved but at the same time we figured there would probably not be much reaction from the outside world. It happens to so many great small projects that it's just sort of what you expect (since you mention you are a musician as well, maybe you recognize that). But then great reactions did come... and they kept coming! We were so pleasantly surprised by it that we really wanted to dedicate some of our time to show our sincere appreciation in return. And thus it became sort of a thing :)
@Shylmagoghnar9 жыл бұрын
+Zephyroth Svartedøden Sorry, your comment landed in the spam so I didn't notice it until now! Sounds great to me! Love the atmosphere and build up - definitely not bothered by it being performed in MIDI at all :) Good work! Happy 10th anniversary btw! That's roughly how long it took us to get from a concept to this album as well. I will definitely not argue that you have to be able to play an instrument to be a musician. Over the years I've met plenty of people who've created beautiful symphonies and some very original sounds in general without ever touching a string. I'd say that the instrument is not what makes the musician; it's just a medium for interpreting the music within your mind. It defiintely has its uses of course. For example, before I played on a drumkit I found it very hard to come up with anything beyond a basic backbeat, because I just couldn't visualize the options there were for a drummer beyond a flat kick-snare pattern with a crash on the first beat. It's when I started using the instrument that there were small realizations like "hey, you can pretty much exchange toms and cymbals in breaks". Those things tend to add up and help you in your creative choices. However, I think there is also something to be said for being "naïve" (not meant in a negative way) about a certain instrument. It may make it easier to think outside of the box and break established patterns.
@LordZephyroth9 жыл бұрын
+Shylmagoghnar When I started, my "music" had no genre. It was like I put death and black metal in a blender and added melodic and symphonic stuff to make it more spicy. But then suddenly appeared (and still appear) things that sound out of the concept of melody and harmony, making weird patterns and breaking the atmosphere. Then I realized that that sounds bad, but can be used to give a refreshing change to music standards. I'm surprised your idea took too much time, it's like "woah, seriously?!" by my side, when I started, I produced dozens of songs (now I have around 150 songs but I finally really like only around 20) and in 2009 made a bad movement and lost my harsh voice. my vowels aren't good enough now to make guturales so, no vocalist since then and almost no lyrics since then too. it's kind of hard time make music and have no one to sing the songs... I've tried to sing again this year but results aren't enough good...
@Shylmagoghnar9 жыл бұрын
+Zephyroth Svartedøden Yea genre was never our concern either. So many useful tools in different genres that it feels restrictive to just stick to one! And yea, our experience is like your own: even if one has hundreds of songs, that doesn't mean they are all good enough to use... and even if they are, they may not fit together on an album at all! I feel that this is what can make the difference between a mediocre and a great album. I think a good album should feel like a book with sensible chapters and a natural flow of emotions - not just a collection of cool short stories. I think that's an overarching quality which can only arise from experience and lots of trial & error. What's your experience with this in your music? Other than that, what took most time for us was simply learning to play all the instruments well enough, getting decent at audio production, learning how to actually release a CD once it's done, etc. There have been demo versions of this album over the years but they were so much lower in quality that it would probably have wasted our first impression on the world. I think the hardest thing for us was to find that point where we were satisfied with the album!
@LordZephyroth9 жыл бұрын
+Shylmagoghnar let me tell you that it's just like you. I've worked in many ideas. I felt really bad (or envious) about all those major bands talking about the north and the winter and stuff purely nordic. I live in the south of the planet and I said: Here is magic too, guys! and started a project called "Tales of Southernland Ceremonies" (back in 2008) I've wrote an album called Sandland for another project (Black Metal) and was about the lose of humanity of a person trapped in the desert. My last project, "Winterwill" is a love/hate/drama story with winter involved, trying to evoke that "Finnish melancholy". I'm not sure about the production of guitars and also I got a little issue with them. I got some glitches in the final recording that are super noticeable. About trial and error, I give my everything, even with a not so good song to make it totally great. I try to don't waste songs, time and inspiration haha

I typically avoid Metal bands with millions of views because I love unique sounding bands and I am not a fan of most mainstream acts. However, this album is amazing and actually has earned all those views by incorporating so many unique styles within it. I'll be always coming back to this wonderful band. Such an atmosphere, such nostalgia, such beauty. Both albums hit my heart and soul, what else do you need from music? Perfect band 🖤 Greetings from Poland!

There has been so much incredible metal created so far in this world, and im very glad to see you guys are working hard to ensure that us enthusiasts will not go unsatisfied in the future. I remember being so impressed with this album that I must have listened to it front to back for weeks, forming a very familiar and intimate connection with every melody, every note. This album exudes passion and spirit. This album will forever join the ranks in my personal favourites collection. My hopes are high that your future work will be a permanent fixture of my personal collection as well. Congrats on the record deal!
