Good lad. Can tell in his voice and demeanor that the boy's been through it, and thankfully he's lived to tell the tale. Respect to him, was a great player and he'll help a lot of young people.

I love that we get to hear the stories from the ppl involved , it’s so easy just to judge these guys and moan about them wasting talent and being paid too much etc but they are humans just like us. Love his honesty

Terrific interview. The best of the Open Goal series so far for me. Garry O'Connor gives a great insight into the life of a once rising football star with some refreshing honesty thrown in. Much better than the usual boring 'doctored' interviews you hear many pros & ex-pros give.

Gary, O'Connor, you don't need even to make excuses or apologize for having a drink or too much to drink or whatever else you've done in your life. People forget how young footballers are & how they are expected to be instant adults when their brains aren't even fully formed yet. We all have done things which we found fun growing up. It's in our culture. You have lots to be proud of in your football career. I'm a Jambo & I respect you for what you've achieved.

Garry O'Connor describing his autobiography. "it's a book aboot me as a young boy to noo". haha! Much respect to his second chance academy though. So many class players lost to the game when they are released at 16.

Some powerful stuff from here & when I think of that team what it could have achieved, just a pity we never kept Mowbray for longer and the team as a whole. Genuinely could have been something but the Russia & Brum stories are interesting especially with his Hibs progress too.

Great interview and very honest. Great servant to hibs his boyhood club who should be so proud of him. Media made a cunt of him and made him out to be bad lad when really he’s just a normal lad. Playing for free is someone all young players should look up to and release it’s not all about money.
