In ireland we call it Irish, or Gaeilge. Gaelic is what uneducated plastic paddies (mostly Yanks with dubious connections to Ireland who are big fans of their police forces and the IRA at the same time and dont see the obvious cognitive dissonance in doing so). So please ignore morons who tell you its Gaelic.

Lyrics: Siúil, siúil, siúil a rún Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom I wish I were on yonder hill 'Tis there I'd sit and cry my fill, 'Til every tear would turn a mill, Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán. Siúil, siúil, siúil a rún Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán. I'll sell my rock, I'll sell my reel, I'll sell my only spinning wheel, To buy my love a sword of steel. Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán. Siúil, siúil, siúil a rún Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán. I wish, I wish, I wish in-vain I wish I had my heart again And vainly think I'd not complain Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán Siúil, siúil, siúil a rún Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán. Translation: Go, go, go, my love Go quietly and go peacefully Go to the door and fly with me And may you go safely, my darling

I'm a Scottish Gaelic speaker and I always enjoy listening to Irish because it's just close enough for me to understand but distant enough for the difference in pronunciation to make my head spin 😂 this is beautiful! Deagh ghuth a th' agad!

Since you speak Scottish Gaelic, I'm curious: what does Canadian Gaelic sound like to you? It's spoken in Nova Scotia and is rooted in Scottish Gaelic
@amonrawya3064Ай бұрын
@lomionaredhelion It sounds quite strange, mainly due to the accent. The dialect is also quite different in a lot of ways. It takes me a while to tune into someone's voice and understand them 😂 but I think it's quite wonderful really
@DreamyAileenАй бұрын
@@lomionaredhelion TIL Canada has a dialect of Gaelic, very epic
@lomionaredhelionАй бұрын
@@DreamyAileen If my memory serves correctly, Gaelic was the third most spoken language of what then Canada by the time of the Dominion (1867). Unfortunately, the language is in a dire situation today as it only has a handful of speakers (same for Acadjonne (Acadian French spoken in NS) and Mi'kmaq). Newfoundland Irish was also spoken in the past, but died out last century. The hegemony of the English language is rough :( But the cultures and history of Atlantic Canada are 100% worth learning about!
@lomionaredhelionАй бұрын
@@amonrawya3064 That's interesting. I did expect the two languages (Canadian Gaelic and Scottish Gaelic) to drift apart like other colonial languages (French, Portuguese, English, etc.) did over the centuries. Does it sound intelligible, or Canadian Gaelic would be too different from Scottish Gaelic to converse with?

I used to listen to the Celtic Woman version of this song all the time in High School. This version carries something altogether different and quite beautiful. I love your inflection in it. Kind of an aching in your voice. I think this might be my favorite version of this song.
@MrEvanmcneilageАй бұрын
This version hits differently because it's sung properly, unlike anything celtic woman sings. This song is a lament leading into a call to arms, it's supposed to rouse anger and the fighting spirit, against all enemies and traitors of the Celtic people.

I remember teaching myself this song when I was a kid in the 90s, early 2000s. Obsessed with Riverdance and Celtic Woman. Absolute joy to hear one of my favorite trad songs in your Very Handsome voice. Thank you for the smile today, I very much needed it.

I really needed this today. The past week has been pretty rough and the first and third verses really hit me. My dog and best friend of nearly 12 years had to be put down last Thursday. And I'm away at college, so I didn't get to say goodbye... and I've just been struggling to cope with the fact that the one friend I could count on always being there for me for the majority of my childhood is now gone. Your music has been a warm soothing hug to my broken heart and has helped soothe me to sleep during restless nights. I know there's a lot of comments on here, so I don't know if you'll see this one, but I really just wanted to thank you for this beautiful cover, and for all of your music. It means a lot to me and countless others as well, I'm sure. ❤
