Ha ha after the dramatic pause to actually see the Iceland adventure.... it was worth the wait! This is really one great bike and seemed to handle what was really quite the Mountain Bike adventure with a lot of ease and looks like a lot of comfort. A super practical build with a good array of bosses for mudguards and racks, it definitely looks like the sort of bike that you can have to get to work/commute or to have some more relaxed fun touring on the roads or be able to then let loose on a bit more of an adventure on wild open country! I think that Titanium definitely shows why it is suited to a frame like this. A monster of a machine and really I think that you must have done the boys and girls at Moots proud... Oh and Si, what ever was the reason for being in Colorado on a training camp when you were 18... sounds like a story we need to hear there! Great bike and great ride!

Some guy named Cannings might have issue with your statement: "You could, theoretically, swap in a mountain bike rear derailleur." On a recent GCN Tech show Jon made the point that BOTH the RD and FD have to be either Road or Mtn for the Di2 to work correctly. HI, I mistakenly built a wheel with a 700C rim and a MTB hub for a Fuji Finest Racer I converted to a Gravel Bike. This was going to be a back up wheel for steep mountain rides. The axel will not fit into the Fuji but will fit nicely into my Iron Horse Mountain Bike. However, the Cantilever brakes pads will not reach the 700C rim. What can I do to fit this wheel into my converted Fuji Finest Racer? Should I cut the axel shorter or something else? I was unable to pry open the Reynolds 531 frame to ram the axel in. Thanks for any help.

Rich Walker thanks that’s good to know. The ultegra rx di2 is much cheaper than the xtr di2. That’s just what I was thinking - a super compact praxis chainset. That should give a gear to get up most hills with a fully loaded bike - anything more and I think it’s mountain bike territory.

Your bike is super nice, Simon, no doubt… (Bell ring). But I wish you had said something about how the ride felt. Titanium frames are said to be the most flexible, and maybe not the best when loaded with bags. So did you feel the frame bend or twist a bit? Did it feel soft when you push the cranks hard?
@lynskeyti99405 жыл бұрын
I have a Lynskey Ti, Its hard to describe the way Titanium rides. Yes it is flexy but not in a bad way, It soaks up tons of shock from the surface but it does not flex or feel soft when cranking up a hill or sprinting. Oh and easy as hell to keep clean... hope this helps

I think the most exotic alloy for frames is Columbus Spirit! And your touring bike looks much more like a racing bike instead. Why would anyone tour with Di2 stuff? Oh yeah, you got a support crew filming you, and you possibly got the groupset for free anyway. I myself don't trust 100% my 10s STI's (for tour), bar end levers can always go friction mode... And Ti is harder to repair in the middle of nowhere if it cracks. Any dirty workshop can weld a steel frame. Same goes for carbon wheels, I'd rather tour with 32 spoke alloy for touring. And carbon fork: no eyelets for rack... My gravel/tour bike got a carbon fork, but for traveling it has a steel one with eyelets. Oh, you can always have more bottles. My gravel bike got two cages inside the downtube, and another 2 holes in between so I can choose to have 2 small bottles there or a Salsa Everything cage. And also another one behind the seatpost, a total of 5 bottles. And finally, the gearing... Sometimes a 2:3 or lower gear is very welcome. I think you can have that ultegra crankset go 46/30 somehow, but it's nice to have it even smaller!
